it might be old but an honest to god portable Diablo is going to be a big deal for some people, especially since Blizzard didn't skimp on anything for it. The fact that a mainline Blizzard game is on a Nintendo console at all is pretty remarkable.

:thunk:

Blizzard literally started as a console developer and literally everything the released, except Warcraft and Diablo, was on the SNES. Or the N64 in Starcraft's case. Though if they could go back in time and un-make Starcraft 64 I'm sure they would.

A short crunch due to unexpected issues that need fixed right now holy poo poo everything is on fire is one thing, but prolonged crunch is "management is either incompetent or malicious" or sometimes both.

This goes double for publishers who can and do decide they want a game X months ahead of when it was originally requested and well if you can't meet that deadline we'll just pull funding right now and gently caress your company completely. Or the Bethesda/Obsidian issue with Fallout:NV and the metacritic score.

well hence why I said mainline; they haven't done anything since Starcraft 64 on Nintendo. Idk how possible it would be but since Arena of Valor has a pretty good control scheme, I'd really love to see Heroes of the Storm on a console.

Yeah the only complaint I've ever heard about Nintendo is that they sometimes go control freak on 3rd parties porting to their system (which was one of the issues they had getting big studios working on Wii U titles) which it seems they've also eased up on.

Indies LOVE them. Not just for the less competitive market but apparently Nintendo's support for getting stuff ported to Switch is extremely good.

Seen this and the GameXplain review, general unleasing seem to be good gameplay, great looking well produced worlds, with the downside that the core loop could be a bit grindy and repetitive with you doing the same tasks in general to liberate areas of planets so ymmv depending on how much you like doing that kind of thing.

Also both reviewers were surprised by the depth of the strategy elements
Watching this video made me realize how much I would love to see House of the Dying Sun for the Switch, but I'm sure Kairo is done (and satisfied) with that project.

I am curious about it, do you need the digital deluxe or is the standard version ok? What is the framerate like on the switch. Are the graphics really simplified?

From everything I have read so far if you don't care about the Toys you can buy the digital deluxe edition and get everything you could with the toys.

I mainly play the Switch portable so I'm just looking at the digital version.

Nothing will ever be quite as much fun as the original TWEWY control scheme, but I picked up a tablet stylus and I'm still having a real good time. I'm just glad my favourite DS game is getting a second round on the sunlight. Also TWEWY loving nails its aesthetic and now it's finally on a console that can make it look and sound as good as it always wanted to. Also I never have to deal with Mingle points again, praise the lord.

I was gonna wait for a deal on TWEWY but I broke down and got it. I'm very glad I did.

So far the new soundtrack is good but there is also an option to use the ds soundtrack. No stylus so I haven't tried touch screen yet but the motion controls feel pretty good in docked mode.
My only issue is recalibrating the joycon every few minutes but at least it is easy to do. Is that normal for motion controls?

indie games like Celeste do really well on Switch mainly because the ecosystem is less jumbled than Steam and the eshop puts new releases/recent uploads front and center for a week or so. the eshop needs some work in regards to how it divides things but for now it's a good deal for indie devs.

speaking of which I double dipped for Into To The Breach and man it owns to have a device that will be capable of playing that, Mark of the Ninja, Hyper Light Drifter, Darkest Dungeon, Stardew, Diablo, and Broforce all on the go. 2018 was mainly a port year to stabilize the digital games on hand but they did such a good job with the selection of games being ported over. The only things I wanted but didn't get were RE4 for the 15th time and SUPERHOT.

Was tempted to get Starlink and knowing now that there's also a split screen co-op mode (that doesn't require a second ship+dock since 2p can use 1p's ship?) makes it all the more appealing. Probably won't pick it up until the holidays though.

Assassin's Creed has been a diceroll for a while, sometime's it's great, other times its a buggy mess or has something else holding it back. As for Starlink, who knows. It's also Ubisoft, but the grift is right up front and you can opt out of it altogether if you go digital.

I would want AC2 on Switch, but I suspect that Ubisoft would retroactively put more grinding and microtransactions-to-avoid-grinding into it.

In those days, Miyamoto would come to us at 11 PM, after he finished all of his board-member work, and say, "It's Mario time." At that point, we'd start a planning meeting that would run until 2 AM. At that point, Miyamoto would go home, leaving us with the words, "You should return home soon, for your health." Over the next two or three hours, we'd write the game design documents and summarize the instructions for our artists and programmers.

It was the craziest crunch time that I've ever experienced in my development career. But if the God of Games was working so much, could we give up? Miyamoto had incredible stamina.

I have it pre-ordered but I won't be able to get it until this afternoon, and I have a high brow social function this evening, so I probably won't get to play it till tomorrow.

And I'm taking about, that classical music from a grey poupon commercial playing in the background except not broken up by a record scratch, butlers walking around a museum with silver trays of hour d'ouerves, 30% chance of a Batman villain crashing the joint social function.
