Same group previously accused of trying to buy votes now does a fundraiser for a pro-bejing candidate but don't worry it was only symbolic no money changed hands!

"Au said later by text message that the financial agent confirmed to Elections BC “that no donations have come to RCC from Wenzhou Society, as under the new government regulations it is illegal.”
“I’ve always understood that non-profit societies are not supposed to donate, that is always the law,” Au said during the earlier interview. “So I think in the past we have received corporate donations, but I know the law has changed, it’s only individuals [allowed to donate].”
The same society’s WeChat account sparked an RCMP investigation into vote-buying, after it published a list of recommended candidates, including Au, and offered a $20 “transportation subsidy.” The controversy prompted Au’s slate, the Richmond Community Coalition, to call on Chinese activist groups to “respectfully stop lobbying Chinese voters to mark their ballots only for Chinese candidates.”"

"The society is officially registered in B.C. as Wen Zhou Friendship Society. It was dissolved for failure to file a report on July 22, but restored on Oct. 5. The directors are You Zhao Feng, Zheng Ke Long and Zhu Jian Guo of Vancouver and Zhang Guan Hui of Richmond."

"Au said he had met You and Pan in social occasions, but does not have intimate knowledge of the society. Pan hosted a private fundraiser for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at one of his local mansions in 2016. In October 2017, his heritage Shaughnessy mansion suffered a fire that was ruled an arson. Nobody has been charged."'

"U.S., Australian and Canadian authorities have cautioned about Chinese government attempts to influence local government elections through pro-Beijing business and expat organizations in a coordinated program overseen by the Communist Party of China’s United Front Work Department.
“Yes, I’ve read about those stories, but I don’t know how true they are and personally I’m not connected or being influenced,” Au said."

God I love Canada.

As the "too sensitive" is not elaborated upon, I will have to assume she meant "too sensitive towards the feelings of the Taiwanese people" i.e. not wanting violent unification right loving now.

This is actually a really big problem, Australians are incredibly racist. if you haven't lived here you might not realise because the ones who are racist shitbags don't like other cultures so they aren't the ones you meet internationally. Australia has a sitting senator who in the 90s claimed we are being swamped by asians and has been non stop dribbling racist bullshit about asians, muslims, aboriginals and vaguely brown looking people since. This is really, really good for the CCP. When they buy off our politicians and pull all their normal tricks here, they get away with it. Noone can call it for what it is, because the second you do, you are branded as a racist and lumped in with the people from the article.

You can see it in action in that article.

quote:

“My campaign poster located in New Town was vandalized with a racist slur. I feel very disgusted, sad and ashamed,” Tang was quoted as saying.

“I believe that most Tasmanians are kind and welcoming people to our diverse country. So, I’d like to acknowledge it’s not the majority of Tasmanians but a select few who have these racist thoughts.”

Tasmanian Greens leader Cassy O’Connor claimed that Tang has a connection with China’s Communist Party, but she has consistently denied and refuted this.

"Look at all these racists giving her poo poo for being chinese. Racism is really bad. It's a select few who have racist thoughts. Oh by the way this person thinks they are a ccp plant"

I have no idea if she has CCP connections, I have no idea who she is. I don't know that greens politician either. But the greens are our most progressive party, they are the least likely to have a closet racist. They are one of the few parties that thinks brown refugees should be treated like people. Maybe she does have connections to the CCP, maybe she is a part of China trying to exert influence here. The CCP does do that, they've been caught doing it here and elsewhere. But you can't question it or you're a racist.

later in the article:

quote:

The accusations were reportedly based on her previous association with the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC), which many believe to be an arm of the Chinese Communist Party.

Tell me that doesn't sound exactly like any number of CCP plant organisiations they've been caught running. It's so obvious, who the gently caress else would start that up. oh but she said shes not in league with the ccp she said shes a good australian citizen!!!

E: Obviously i don't mean to imply that all chinese are CCP plants. But you don't join an organisation called the "Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China" and become it's vice chair willy nilly.

yeah its pretty hosed. to be fair they are both senators and the senate is easier for fringe groups to get into, but its still hosed. Pauline actually lives relatively close to where i grew up, she represents me in the senate. :(. Its a minority that are ultra racist and ironically they make it easier for the CCP to do its thing. The NZ National party (Our right wing) is setting itself on fire while juggling wet dynamite right now with sex, lies, electoral fraud, Chinese spies(Looks legit) and hilarious racism as seen below.

It's a satire article but the bold actually happened.

http://www.thecivilian.co.nz/how-many-maureen-pughs-is-one-chinese-worth/

quote:

Yesterday former National MP Jami-Lee Ross released an explosive recording in which opposition leader Simon Bridges described one of his MPs, Maureen Pugh, as “loving useless.”

Bridges and Ross also discussed how two Chinese MPs were apparently worth more than two Indian MPs,
and so we thought it was only appropriate to consult an expert on how many Maureen Pughs one Chinese MP would be worth, and other, similar questions relating to the value of members in a National caucus.

Spokesperson for the TAB, Kate Gourdie, was happy to offer us some rough values.

“I suppose the one problem we have, to begin with, is that Bridges and Ross don’t specifically discuss exactly how much one Indian is worth in relation to one Chinese, only that one Indian is worth less,” said Gourdie.

“What we can gather, though, is that one Maureen Pugh is worth substantially less than either, and not very much at all, really.

“Working backwards from there, if we’re to assume that one Indian is worth slightly more than half of one Chinese – given that neither Ross or Bridges used the terminology ‘less than half’, which we might expect in such a case – then we can estimate that five Maureen Pughs are worth about one Chinese MP, and three Maureen Pughs are worth about one Indian MP.”

The TAB was also happy to offer the following valuations:

One John Key is worth three Bill English.

One Bill English is worth six Simon Bridges.

David Carter is more of a collector’s item and the value is highly dependent on the buyer.

One Jami-Lee Ross is worth nothing.

One Nick Smith is worth a $3 bet for or against the All Blacks.

Steven Joyce is worth 11.7 billion unredeemable credits.

The Liberals have always been a cash-strapped party, and they see China as their answer to their campaign fund problems. Due to the restrictive donation policies in Canada they can't rely on a few big companies funneling cash into their accounts like they used to, so they need to rely on a large amount of people donating the maximum amount. Since companies and parties are under greater scrutiny with their donations, they can't have a firm in Quebec having every employee donating the max amount because it raises huge red flags. But if they have sympathetic Chinese (Canadian) citizens doing it, they can rest easy. The conservatives have an ideal voter base for donations, as their demographics include a lot of people who need to donate money for income tax purposes, so they sent it their way. The Liberals don't have that same well to tap, so they traditionally have had to set up donations rackets to get their funds.

It really sucks, because if they had the conservative's financial stability, they might actually spend some time running the country instead of frantically trying to raise enough money for ads.

In 2009 the Conservatives received $17,702,201.05 from 101,385 contributors, while the Liberals received $9,060,916.11 from 37,876 contributors.
