They 100% do this to try to annoy you into deciding it's not worth it and hanging up. I used to work for BlackBerry and the hold music for internal lines was a relaxing Pilotwings 64-esque jam while any public facing hold music was the same song compressed to poo poo and constantly being interrupted.

Oh hey! Wonderful, you made a full visualization of an entire building for us! Wonderful! And we can walk around in it and everything! Now, none of us are familiar with the program you made it in, but could you please send us the original project/source files, so that we can mess around and contact you ceaselessly about support for it? I can just feel that this'll result in a lot of emails and annoying support about: 'Oh wow it looks like it in fact wasn't trivially easy to do things! And that the work you did is pretty specialised and it takes a long time to learn how to use a game engine! Who could have imagined this! ' I suppose the pet peeve is people just assuming that anything computer/game related is pretty simple, because 'it's basically just like playing a game, isn't it?' No, no it isn't.

Related is trying to explain to people the difference between easy things to program and difficult things to program. Or that doing anything non-trivial doesn't happen overnight. I can't "just hammer it together in a day" for a lot of things. Another difficulty is explaining that there's frequently two options; the easy one that will cause more work down the road or the slower one that will be more robust in the long term. You can't pick both.

Human food has higher safety and quality standards. Not sure if this is qualifies for the thread, but I'd really like to be able to get myself a 'new' (used) car tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be able to. I've got the money, and found one I'd like see/test drive at a nearby dealership (assuming it's in good shape,) but I plan on keeping my current vehicle, too (a truck, so I can do truck things with it.) I haven't found anyone willing to drive me over there so that if I decide to buy it I can drive it home, and it's too far to take a cab/Uber to. My local friends are all busy or out of town (or, rightfully, don't feel like wasting a few hours of their weekend being my chauffeur... Can't blame them.)

A lot of older people living off pensions in my area have to resort to eating pet food, because they can't afford proper groceries after paying for their medications. A couple of years ago I decided to eat some and see what was up. Alpo wet dog food: basically just people food with less salt added. If you look at the ingredients there are a bunch of spices and stuff added that a dog wouldn't care about, so they have to know that people are eating it. The "London Grill" variety even has potatoes and carrots. Friskies wet cat food: just tastes like ash. Like, from a fireplace. Inoffensive texture though, so it wouldn't be too tough to eat more if I had to. Dry cat/dog food: it's mostly corn, and just tastes like corn. Causes weird poops.

loving recipe reviews. "Five stars! Great recipe! I changed it a bit by using chicken instead of beef, added four cups of onions, omitted all the pepper and cumin, and turned it into a soup. So yummy!" "This is a terrible recipe, I would never make it again. Followed the directions except I didn't have any beef so I used canned tuna, and I didn't have an iron skillet so I used a rusty muffin tin, and I didn't have any of the spices so I added a ramen packet. It had no flavor and my husband cried." You. Didn't. Make. This. Recipe.

A couple of years ago I decided to eat some and see what was up. I appreciate this post. I've eaten several kinds of dog treats and honestly the texture is the worst bit. Either mushy with no bite at all or gritty af. I've also eaten a lot of kinds of hamster food and it just tastes like nothing, always, or it's a sunflower seed. I'm just curious tho, not that poor. I haven't tried a mealworm yet even tho they are a good protein source and apparently taste nutty. I've done this peeve before but if you wouldn't eat it why are you giving it to your animal friend who doesn't get to choose what they eat? Why do dogs and cats love human food so much oh right because what they get fed every day is boring and probably gross ash and floor sweepings.

When I was visiting my sister out in Boulder, Colorado, I came upon a dog bakery that had a bigger and more exotic selection than I've seen in most human bakeries. I think that's a peeve of mine: places that are dog-obsessed. Makes me want to walk a cat around on a leash.

My dog dug up the garden twice to get to the carrots. But if I offer him a fresh washed one from the store, or even the garden, he spits it out and leaves it there. I guess he needs to do the work?

Also my pet peeve is that the whole job application process is bullshit in the face of just knowing people. I got a form letter rejection from a 3-hour application to do contract work for an environmental consulting firm. A week later, today, I happen to meet the department coordinator during a catered lunch at an industry conference, never mention I applied, and 30 minutes later she's giving me her card and telling me to email her whenever I want contract work. I've had roughly 2 dozen gigs in my relatively short career and got exactly none of them via a job listing. Riatsala has a new favorite as of 02:42 on Oct 20, 2018 |

I'm not saying feed them curry and kebabs, just if you look at the ingredients and wouldn't eat it, or it has 1.5% chicken and 60% rusk why are you buying it? I would say most people don't know what their dogs nutritional needs even are, they just pick up a can and call it good. Not that all people know what their own nutritional needs are, to be fair. That also irritates me.

My job is remote IT support and the amount of people who think they can get away with lying to get a new computer is silly. "Oh your monitor stopped working, have you checked the cables? " "yeah I've done this before plenty times and it never works I think this pc is just busted" "OK I'm gonna need you to disconnect everything yeah? Unplug the cable with the two screws from the pc and the monitor" "ugh I don't see what this will do but OK" "OK now plug it back in" "oh it works now, well how about that"

Well the peeve the other way around is a very old classic one for a reason. A lot of people really did already try the genius ideas of "unplug everything and plug it back in again", "reboot the computer", "check to see if it's plugged in" etc and want to skip the first 15 minutes of your script and get you to send a tech out.

At Comcast you got charged a hefty fee if the tech had to do something “you could have done yourself.” It really sucked having to tell 85 year olds that they either cough up like $80 for the tech on top of the usual cost, or need to move their desk (or worse tv stand or couch or something) and gently caress around with cords when they might not even have the strength to undo a coax cable.
