I don't have strong feelings on the issue, it just seems like such a weird thing to argue about when three pages of discussion about how great Janet looked without her shirt would be obviously pushing it. Does it make any difference if Janet is technically an object?

If you're mad that women are objectified (and I am too) then the solution is to stop objectifying women. It's not to start also objectifying men.

the solution is to realize nobody gives a gently caress who you think is hot and stop trying to turn it into a conversation ya fuckin doinks If you wanna have a conversation about how bad it is that men are objectified on television then be patient for 100 years of shows where women are gross idiots and men are hot and sexy and subservient to their whims to pass so that your complaints seem fuckin' valid and not based on a gross desire to be part of the persecuted and if you wanna have a conversation about who you want to stick in what or rub what against who go join fanfiction.net or quotev or wattpad ANYWAY I have no idea how this season's going to end; I was expecting it to end with a reveal that they died and Michael and Janet are from the afterlife but we already been did that.

They can just reset the timeline if that happens, but also I don't think someone would find the manifesto and automatically think it was a real thing, I guess unless the person who finds it already suspected something was supernatural about Michael. I think endgame will be something along the lines of "the real Good Place is the one we make for ourselves".

Season 4 sees the six of them in charge of running the rehab Good Places as a proof-of-concept that the Good Place should lay claim to every possible redeemable soul.

Someone who is actually in the journalism department is gonna find it and publish it with Janet's extremely thorough data included and it probably has verifiable and corroborating bits of info in it that no one else would know

I'm thinking that at some point the four humans will be let into the Good Place, positions fully earned, no strings attached. And it turns out that the Good Place also sucks. So they're still not done.

My only guess is that Simone finds the manifesto. I'm really interested in where her character goes next. They're dealing with Tahani's ties, so I imagine they'll deal with Simone and Pillboy soon. I also hope we see more cross-cast interactions now. It's almost been pretty much Eleanor-Chidi and Tahani-Jason this season, which is fine, but let's mix it up again. Hearing Eleanor refer to Tahani by name near the end was weird since it feels like forever since she's done that.

RBA Starblade posted:"Welcome to the Good Place...welcome to Florida!" This reminds me of a road trip my family took to Florida a couple years ago. We drove through Alabama and entered Florida on US 231. I always try to take a quick picture of the first big Welcome To _____ sign I see if I'm the passenger in the car. So, I see the one for Florida, and below the main sign is another sign that says that there's a replica of that sign just inside the Welcome Center. So, naturally, we went to the welcome center, and that's where we had our picture taken. I thought it was thoughtful, convenient, safe, and good. As we pulled away, I looked, and there was a family of idiots pulled just barely off the road, taking pictures next to the sign that had a nice, safe replica away from the main road. One of them was even pointing, and the sign they were pointing to was the one that told them about the replica sign inside the nearby center. I'm sure they didn't notice this because, again, they were idiots. That's how I know that Florida is a Bad Place masquerading as a Good Place. At least, that was my first clue. The rest of the clues were the interior of Florida, minus the NASA tour. The beach was nice, though.

Phenotype posted:It's very simple, I think. How would you react if one of the actresses had a scene where she took her top off and walked around shirtless for a while, and tons of people started posting about how turned on they were? I think that would be pretty obviously gross. It shouldn't be any less gross just because it's a man that did it. OctaviusBeaver posted:If you're mad that women are objectified (and I am too) then the solution is to stop objectifying women. It's not to start also objectifying men. Between "holy poo poo, Chidi is JACKED," and doing some of the gross fetishizing of black bodies a lot of white people tend to do.

I would say there is a contextual distinction in that Janet's sexy waitress outfit carries connotations of fetishized servility (the extreme endpoint of this trope being Hooters or maid cafes), whereas the delight at shirtless Chidi is mostly coupled with praise of how well he/Harper takes care of himself.

Chidi is capable of any physicality which virtue might demand. He is truly committed to the philosophical life.

It's less gross to admire a man's body to a television subforum because men aren't told from childhood that their looks are the only important thing about them. Hm, that's an interesting perspective that I hadn't considered, and I think I have to agree. Less gross because it's not reinforcing stereotypes and piling on. I think this is overthinking it heavily, though. I definitely liked seeing Janet in the sexy waitress outfit, but "fetishized servility" wasn't anywhere on my mind, it was just "pretty lady showing off her curves." Sometimes jean shorts are just jean shorts.

Listening to The Good Place podcast, I realize there must be some people in the Good Place for at least one more reason than those previously stated, since Michael comments that the most popular podcast there is Mozart and Jimmy Hendrix discussing music. Though frankly, the most popular one in the Bad Place, Stalin discussing The Bachelor sounds better and I've never even seen The Bachelor.
