I've clocked fifty or sixty hours on this game so far and it still somehow manages to surprise me sometimes. Last night it gave me a beautiful planet unlike anything I've seen yet. I didn't have time to do much exploring but I'll definitely be spending a good amount of time there tonight. Even from space I could tell that it was going to be something special when I saw that it was bright red with dark gray streaks and white clouds. It's got red dirt, red grass, large palm trees with red leaves and dark gray patches of rock. There's mild weather with light rain 100% of the time, relaxed sentinel presence, and loving dragons occasionally flying overhead. I'm definitely setting up a base here. No question.

Oh, and a stupid design decision I just figured out: if you find all of the fauna on a planet, merely uploading them all does NOT give you credit toward the "found all fauna on a single planet" milestone/achievement/nanite bonus. AFTER uploading them all you then ALSO have to place the cursor on the pawprint in the upper right corner of the box and then hold down the select button. IT'S A TWO PART PROCESS. I have no idea why they did it this way. It's so stupid; it should be automatic after you upload all the data. Fortunately, you can just go back through your list of planets and claim credit for what it hasn't given you yet.

Like this base computer bug is super common it seems, as are a bunch of freighter/fleet issues. And some other quest bugs. Just fixing those would make the game unbelievably better. That is without fixing base building bugs even! Fortunately it's the exact same control scheme as the cars in the Borderlands games, so I've had plenty of experience driving things like this already.

Ah, see, I played BL2 on PC but used the keyboard to drive. In this game I use the pad to drive and fly on PC, and only go mouse and keyboard for foot, and for whatever reason, you cannot rebind acceleration or steering at all. I might have to just try messing with keyboard driving to see how that feels, but I have been getting used to the controls with a pad anyway. 18 Character Limit posted:I only see them go heal quads when they're not already shooting me directly. Do the item inventories for purchase change after a while? I had notes on what stations sold what when I started playing Next and now more than half of them are wrong.

Found a Stellar Corrupted Planet in an uninhabited system. It made everything grayscale (including the fauna, flora and sentinels) except the sky, which is red. Made my signal booster entirely gray except for a red light on the tip of the antenna. Very aggressive predatory critters. The atmosphere is "corrupted blood". I set up a base there because it's badass. Got some radon harvesters going.

Turns out if you melee jetpack glitch the same time a biological horror lunges at you, you sometimes get sent into low earth orbit. Thankfully fall damage never goes beyond 1/4 health or whatever. The most bizarre planet I've come across so far is a dead planet with some really weird coral/virus poo poo going on. Also learned that 'bellend' is blocked for creature names Still enjoying the game, despite some of the grindyness.

The best thing about the weird coral virus planets is that those coral stars only light up and start making sounds when you look at them.

So apparently I can't repair my damaged Explorers? If I land on them the captain doesn't even mention them being damaged, and if I get out of my ship, I clip through the floor and there is no interior to any of them. I wonder if this is related to the fact that I keep getting Explorers with For Sale icons on them, but they are never for sale. Also new, I can't directly access 40% of my storage container slots. The top 2 slots on every container is bugged and briefly flashes an error message saying that this tech is critically damaged. I can still transfer through the X menu, when THAT works.

Had my second death ever last night. I made the brilliant decision of ignoring the sentinel drones while fighting a walker. Normally I kill the drones first but I was in a bit of a hurry. I was firing plasma grenades up at the walker like I always do when a drone (that had been completely off-camera for quite awhile) suddenly lunged directly in front of my reticle right as I pulled the trigger. What a brave sacrifice.

So, what's the story with long range travel these days? Black holes go how far, where? They used to be random, now they're fixed? 1600-1700ly seems about the most I can squeeze out of my s-rank explorer. It's a big galaxy, and getting around to any of the other areas is a chore.

I'm getting ~1600LY jumps on my squid, and while black holes hurl me anywhere from 50,000 to like a million lightyears across the galaxy, they never land me any more than 10k LY closer to the core at a time. It's taking me eons to get there

Found my first abandoned space station. Yeah, that's totally not spooky. Amazing that it somehow had functional lighting, store, and automated landing pad functionality.

I found my first abandoned station without realizing the system was abandoned and without realizing the station was looking a little ragged. I noticed the hangar lights turn orange but thought that it was maybe something it did when ships were taking off that I had never landed. Then on the way in I noticed how hosed up it was and was going "ohhh fuuuuck what is this" all the way in. I like how most of the buildings in abandoned systems are hosed up and gooped up but the trading posts are perfectly fine but abandoned, which was spookier to me than anything else for some reason.

I really hope someday you can land in a wrecked station like that, jump out, then notice your rifle out. The alien shrieking starts and horrors just start boiling out of the side rooms. And you jump back in your ship and fly the hell out. Hopefully on April 1st.

More extensive interiors and fighting indoors would be cool, especially for very hard multiplayer dungeons/raids/whatever. Also I'm not sure if it's me or the game that doesn't know how to count:

BattleMaster posted:Also I'm not sure if it's me or the game that doesn't know how to count: This is a weird thing that NMS does but doesn't tell you about, except in a popup which is gone in 2 seconds - two of those creatures are variants of the same species. When you scanned it, you'd see a message in the bottom right saying "Creature belongs to already discovered species". You still get money for scanning a "new" species but it doesn't count towards the "unique" species scanned for that planet. Yes, this is pretty much bullshit. Specially when you have 15 creatures scanned but only 10/11 Species on the drat list.

That fauna milestone is the only one I don't have a 10 for. I've been stuck at 5 for quite awhile. Why are critters so loving hard to find? I just want the platinum trophy.

And why can't I hire interstellar mechanics? Why am I the only person in my entire fleet who knows how to repair a starship? Seems borderline irresponsible for frigates to leave on missions without several mechanics on board. How did these fucks deal with problems before I came along? This is not fun gameplay, Hello Games.

Go to the community event system, if it's been a few days other people will have found all the creatures. I've no idea how intentional this is but the game treats creature scanning as collaborative so you can just go into the log, turn in the "all creatures found" thing by holding the button on the paw icon and you'll get the nanites and advance the milestone.

Been driving around an ugly rear end A-class 31/4 hauler for quite awhile mainly for inventory space but I just found a sleek, badass looking A-class 37/11 fighter and traded in a busted up junker shuttle for it. It's not S-class but I'll take it. Now I just gotta find all the proper upgrade modules for it. Fortunately, I have over 15,000 nanites at this point.
