It's an unholy union. All combats in the 4X layer play out as RTS battles.

I actually find this fun in theory but it becomes so boring grinding through every combat, since the autogeneral is pretty bad.

What about the Ferengi.

Birth of the Federation had them as one of the playable factions-one of the only times they've BEEN a proper playable faction. Lots of money via unique to them buildings and early trade routes means new colonies can get their infrastructure up pretty quickly. Ships weren't exactly great, but then again, you could also purchase a lot of them, too. Bribing of neutrals, too.

The new DLC sounds interesting, but in the same way the Plantoids-DLC sounded interesting. Which means I'll eventually get it, but right now it looks like I'll wait for a sale next year or something.

Megacorps and Coruscants are neat, but don't draw me like new ships or portraits do. And everything really game changing will be free anyway.

but how will you survive without CaravanCoinz?

Jokes aside, i feel Megacorps are the most game changing theyve ever introduced since its actually a different playstyle. Gestalts are nifty, but overall they are crippled normal empires

hobbesmaster posted:

So I'm watching the stream and the "demand subsidiary" request they're showing off requires you to be "superior" or better and your emprie to be bordering them. These conditions don't make sense for megacorps though? The current power rankings are based on navy and tech not economy? And your empires are supposed to be small, shouldn't your subsidiaries also count for borders?

Megacorps can directly gain Naval Cap and other resources from branch offices, seperate from the piles of EC they'll be getting from good planets.

It seems Subsidiary can pretty much just be read as Vassal. In the stream they seemed pretty direct about subsidiaries being the mechanic to conquer the galaxy for anyone inclined to do so as a Megacorp. They listed a civic which reduced the relative power requirements, even.

Yeah, this whole thing is really cool. It's a lot of work for them, but I hope some day they go back and add more cool stuff to the other government types. So many of them feel really samey right now- give my military dictatorship a special decree that lets them call up the reserves to temporarily boost the fleet cap, but make them vulnerable to other empires supporting coups that kill your sweet level 7 dictator and set you back to a level 1. Let my space commune fund worker revolts on planets with high levels of inequality, and maybe form allied space communes if they get their independence. Give collective consciousnesses the ability to stealthily assimilate captured pops and then release them back into their original empire, giving the hivemind vision of their worlds and fleets until they catch on and purge the infected ones. If I'm at war with a machine intelligence, let me ask friendly machine intelligences to design malware to deliver to their systems.

Paradox would be able to come up with much better ideas, but I'm glad the megacorp really seems to live up to Stellaris's promise. Some unique strengths, a serious drawback in harsher planet caps, and overall enough difference so that your government type won't mostly just be a name.

I'm curious about how fanatic egalitarian corporations are flavoured, if at all, given that egalitarianism has a rather overtly socialist/social democratic bent (e.g. the egalitarian voice extolling the benefits of joining a union). Workers co-ops?

The caravancoinz thing was really funny, but I kind of feel like that now I've seen the joke I'd be unlikely to interact with that system at any point ever.

You'll probably sill have surpluses of something or other by the mid/late game so you may as well swing by the slots to give them a spin to see what you can win and have fun with some of that extra cash. Until you've spent the entire empire's treasury on your gambling addiction.

He moused over them and (assuming it was complete content) Private Military Contractor was just a bonus to (your) ground forces and Naval contractor was the same to your naval capacitry IIRC.

Pity, I was hoping it would unlock some sort of corporate branch building that boosted the receiving planet's naval cap in return for profits for you or something. It would be fun to play Kingmaker by setting up a bunch of military support stuff in your nicer neighbors.

Maybe Military contractor + criminals, then set up mercenary bases in your allies and drug labs in the empires that don't like you.
