The first season said that Constance had four kids, but we only ever saw three. Apparently, they've decided to use this reunion episode as a way to fill that plot hole.

THANK YOU! I was trying to place who the actress was, I kept thinking it was one of the home intruders from S1. drat the Anton LaVey character was a great little bit part. Am i stupid or was that Nestor Carbonell? And just after the discussion on what real life character we would bring in this season.

If there was one scene I would have wanted in Murder House, it was this. Moira deserved to be free.

This episode was a great epilogue to Murder House. Not too entirely keen on "Tate's not evil, it was the HOUSE!", for a half-assed redemption for him, but the rest was loving great.

I still hope we get just a bit more Jessica Lange this season (perhaps as Fiona Goode).

Come to me .... and live forever.
This is the point in the season where the interesting plot points they've set up really give way to fanservice and general hokeyness.

It was an awful lot of exposition just to tell us that Michael aged 10 years in a day, Constance just killed herself, the Chruch of Satan guy found Michael, and the Harmon family is still full of idiots. Somehow it just wasn't very satisfying.
The whole thing with Moira's bones seems odd, as surely some of their bodies aren't still on the premises. The fourth child was a nice touch, although it's a detail almost nobody remembers I bet. Tate and Violet reuniting because "the house made him do it" is pure fanfiction.

They need at least one more episode to lead to the bomb going off and getting us back to the grand battle, which I worry about, because they've never been above plot armor and deus ex. I foresee it leading to a bunch of deaths and sacrifices that don't mean anything because they'll be brought back to life, and the world will begin again with a bunch of Eves who will do it right this time. Unless, god forbid, this series finally uses the one tired no-thought Hollywood trope it hasn't yet time travel.

I feel bad for the lesbians who were instantly killed and then super killed.

SHINee's back

Was not expecting Mena Suvari to return for a cameo lmao. Sad we didn't get to see Nora!

This episode may not have covered a lot of ground, but it was reallu great returning to the house, and I genuinely enjoyed all storytelling about Michael. Not too keen on explaining away Tate as Satan Did It, but okay lmao. I kinda always figured antichrist baby was sprung simply from being the product of a union between a living woman and a dead af soul, not like some master Satan plan. I like the master Satan plan in general, but it's a shame it means handwaving Tate's deeds lmbo.

And yeah, the fourth child was mentioned a couple times, and iirc even built up a bit as some nightmare visage, but Murphy never actually went anywhere with it and we never saw her in the season proper despite the tease. I guess now she's just an adorable girl with no eyes lmfao.

All this episode needed was Connie Britton thoughtfully eating a brain.

Billy Porter has become my absolute favorite in this season. His facial expressions are amazing.

Seeing old Moira back (and probably the only character to get a happy ending) makes me curious about Alexandra Breckinridge. I know she showed up again with a bit part in Coven and not in any other seasons?

Was she not down for an anthology show, or was she not brought back after she and Evan Peters broke up? Anybody know if there was behind the scenes drama?

Oh absolutely. Blaming the house? :frogout:

As nice as it was having Moira get a happy ending, surely this messes with the rules of the house? I was hoping Vivienne would stick up for her against Constance. The final happy ending of S1 with Moira being the Godmother and the family having Christmas together was certainly undone.

Enjoying the season but the pacing feels all off knowing that they don't stop Michael and he's in the post-apocalyptic future.

Yeah, I'm bouncing between thinking the pacing on this season could've been handled a lot better somehow -- with three full flashback episodes mid-season (and it looks like at least one more next week) -- and wanting to wait and see how it actually ends before judging the current pace. With only 10 episodes altogether, though, and the first third of the season dedicated to characters who, at least half of which, seem to be of the "definitely not coming back" super dead variety, unless the last couple episodes are extra long like last night's, it doesn't seem like enough time remaining to have a satisfying conclusion to witches vs Antichrist.

It's probably a witch thing. They could bind her into a closet without the bones. With the bones they were able to bind her spirit to her remains and move her out of the house. A non-witch wouldn't be able to do that, which is the ones whose bodies were found and removed are still trapped.

Otherwise on Halloween they could all just dig up their own bones and carry them someplace nice, lol.

It was in Murder House, her bones were buried in the back yard by Constance. She had a glimmer of hope when her bones were found while creepy burned guy was burying the husband's dead pregnant girlfriend, but then he just tossed that body in, and then they built a gazebo over it.

So, the rules were there for Moira, but as for the others, even Murder House played it loose.

Yeah, Moira's hail mary was always hoping someone would help her find and move her bones. There's so many bodies on the property that it was always a long shot someone alive would even be able to

Which is why the Moira's bones thing is weird. She can leave on Halloween ... or if someone moves her remains.

So theoretically Addy's remains could be moved to the house and she could live there if Constance reaaaaally wanted. Or not because inconsistencies is key with Ryan Murphy lmao

e: though imo addy woulda straight up refused anyway and that may have also been a hitch if constance tried this

Goddamn am I enjoying this season. Really enjoyed the nesting box structure of this season -- just this episode alone consisted of five short stories nested inside a side-trip, buried inside a flashback*, all powered by nostalgia. It's almost enough to hide the fact that nothing's actually happened for the past three episodes, the show's just getting the cast up to speed on things we've known for, arguably, seven years.

I appreciate what they're doing to rehabilitate Coven. This entire episode in particular was effectively a huge fix fic for Madison's character, turning the complete mess of her character into something the show could make workable going forward. It's admittedly a pretty rough treatment in a few places, but by the end I found the character to be surprisingly likable. (Which, given that Coven had her vacillate between being its defacto villain and a particularly entertaining bad smell is a huge step forward).

I think it also helps that we know that this arc's going to end in a particularly bloody clusterfuck (we can even point to at least one confirmed victim) which gives this extended flashback a degree of momentum that it wouldn't otherwise have. Any odds on possible survivors? I suspect Misty's toast, but I hope I'm surprised.

Also, Holy poo poo, has the show been wasting Naomi Grossman. I loved the completely insane voice she had going here.

*F/X seems to have a real Inception kick going on right now, between this and Sunny.

I'd be surprised if we see Misty again this season, especially after it being such a big deal to bring her back from hell and her telling Cordelia that she can't join this particular fight. My guess is that they just mention next episode or something that Stevie Nicks spirited her away somewhere secret/safe on Cordelia's order while Madison and Behold were busy at the murder house.
