Add the name of any American town in front of any dish and it becomes cursed.

pretty much any episode of america's test kitchen or cook's country where they try to make anything from a foreign culture is great because none of them have any idea what things are supposed to taste like

Obesity and habitual junk food useage erode the ability to taste subtle flavors, thus giving scientific credence to American claims of food being bland sans dozens of bottles of Ranch. :eng101:

Yep. And because having a palate is something of an acquired thing you are likely to be stuck in bad food limbo if you were fed bad stuff as a child.

Doesn't help that food selection is a significant class signifier.

Yeah that's valid, the one time we tried one of their "chipotle" recipes even the dog wouldn't eat it

I didn't eat pizza until I was maybe 15-18. I mean I'd tried tiny bits before but didn't like it because it was so sweet. Then kebab-pizzerias started popping up all over the city and they put so much cheese on the pizza it tasted completely different.

there was an interview with christopher kimball ages ago where he said the point of cook's illustrated and related media was to re-engineer recipes to be consistently repeatable and how they tasted was a lower priority

First one sounds amazing, second one sounds boring but sometimes boring is really tasty (see: poutine).

Im terrible at making any kind of noodle dish so I trend towards chicken. I tried a few recipes with glazes but they all tasted too similar no matter what I stuck in them. So I experimented and ended up with a neat little chicken dish using balsamic vinegar and marinating some boneless chicken breasts. I dice up some potatoes and toss them in during baking and they soak up the flavour pretty well. Ive also tried serving it over rice and its pretty good that way too.

Cooking is fun. I always get sad when I meet people that live off take out and premade meals. :(

thigh meat over breast meat any day of the week imho

and a good fried chicken sandwich is anything but boring

I tried thighs the first time and they didnt marinate very well.

Nashville hot chicken doesnt make up for the abomination they call poutine at the Bridgetone Arena. White gravy and nacho cheese? gently caress you, Nashville.

In 2017, a study explored whether dingoes and primitive dog breeds might exhibit less desirable traits than the more recently derived breeds through a survey of their owners. The study found that both modern and ancient breeds were easier to train than the dingo, showed less staring behavior, and were less likely to roll in animal dung than the dingo.
