For GTE the Corvettes get close, because the deep thunder of a V8 is always appreciated. And also hoping the RSRs don’t go to a turbo engine too.

The BMW also only has a right side exhaust, do it's entirely inaudible from the left, and only barely audible from the right. Does sound good when you can hear it though.

The GT sounds loving abysmal. It's not "Audi Diesel Schoolbus" levels of awful, but it sounds poo poo. I'm just happy they let the RSR howl again.

I only saw the Audi diesels in person once (ALMS in Portland) but it was awe-inducing how fast they could go by being so quiet. Almost unnerving. An older favorite was the BMW M3 GTRs partially because I caught them in Portland before (as the story goes) they figured out their fuel mixtures, because the first half of that season they were essentially Bavarian flamethrowers. The current Super GT races are cool because the GT500s are decent sounding for turbos, and once they’ve all blown by a Mercedes AMG GT rumbles it’s way past.

The 1999-2003 era Panoz LMP-1 that was in ALMS was the loudest thing I've ever heard at several Sonoma races. It was brutal, even with earplugs. The Porsches were second loudest, surprisingly even over Corvettes/Vipers etc. The Audi diesels of that era you just heard some rumbing and transmission whining and then tires as they flew past and were pulling out to a huge lead.

That pic is of the gasoline R8s, not the diesel models though. And yeah the Panoz roadsters were glorious.

Think the loudest I heard was the RX8. That thing loving howled at Daytona. It also feels like the Corvettes were a poo poo ton louder when they were the C5.R, but that may also be due to my rapidly increasing deafness in the....oh God it's been almost 20 years gently caress me

Rally Spain is ongoing. It is the only mixed surface dirt/asphalt rally of the year and is the penultimate round of the championship. There is a pretty close three way fight between Ogier, Neuville and Tanak for the championship. There are also a lot of old familiar faces this rally such as Sebastian Loeb, Petter Solberg, Ken Block and Henning Solberg, https://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/livetiming/page/4175----.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uamuNN2I7lE [Edit] I can add some silly season stuff since I guess a lot of folks doesn't follow rally Ogier and Lappi will be driving for Citroen next year. Citroen not expected to keep any of its drivers except the odd appearance of the sheikh sponsoring the team. Kris Meeke will be back driving for Toyota M-Sport expected to sign Craig Breen Humbug fucked around with this message at 09:32 on Oct 26, 2018 |

Rally fans will not listen to anyone telling them to not stand right on the edge of the road until one of them gets smacked by a car at 70+ mph and even then it'll probably only be a week before they're right on the road again.

Organizers seem to favor removing offending rallies rather than axing categories these days. Poland lost its WRC round due to poor spectator control. not hard to see why when you have videos like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxEtmmte33M Rally Japan will return next year and I believe the organizers want a round in the US as well. Rally Sardinia looks like it will be axed, and I expect they will look at Spain as well to make space in the calendar. I think Spain is one of the better rallies otherwise though. The championship will be super spicy going into the last round if the standings stay like this. Three drivers for three teams on pretty much equal points.

https://www.netflix.com/title/80118100 I'm not sure if you were all aware, but Netflix has a documentary series called Dirty Money, wherein episode 2 we learn about the payday loan racket setup by Scott Tucker. Very interesting to see things from his side of the story (spoiler alert: he's a rich rear end in a top hat playing the victim) and to get the details that led to his fall. Plus it was satisfying to see the Level 5 GTD and P2 cars getting towed out of his home, both in the sense that those cars looked very good and that that loving bastard was getting his comeuppance. Y'all should watch it.
