Non poo poo-talk: What is Blitz Ball? I am perhaps intrigued. I used to love Blood Bowl back in the day when we had enough people to form a regular league, but both it and Guild Ball are completely dead around here. No one plays either game.

Also, on the topic of the logistical difficulties of manufacturing in China, Wyrd is not the only company that has screwed themselves by going down that rabbit-hole. Look at the debacle that was Palladium's Robotech Tactics game. That was so much fail on so many levels. I caught up with a friend who works there at GenCon and he had all kinds of horror stories about the poo poo they've gone through with it.

Infinity is really sexist. Like, almost every female sculpt is super porny and they paint nipples on the studio models.

There have been some good posts across various China threads by guys in different logistics and manufacturing positions who have to work directly with China and it sounds like hell.

The big problem is that companies running on shoestring budgets see the prices to manufacture in China and don't really do the kind of due diligence you have to to be successful there. Like you basically have to have a fixer on the ground, but that's going to run the salary of a bilingual expat with industry connections and suddenly a fifth of your Kickstarter dollars are gone.

That you immediately interpret it as a joke says more about you than it does the corporation you have an irrational hateboner for, to be honest.

The other big KS/small publisher trap is The Australian Shipping Problem. It sucks when you have to tell potential backers the high cost of shipping, but companies have mistakenly used low shipping quotes before realizing they’ll have to eat the difference or use alternative methods that just makes the shipping even slower. Restoration games is the latest that ran into this trap, and between that and probably the same Chinese production problems might no longer exist after fulfilling their latest Kickstarter.

Perturabo is an insecure guy who keeps himself closeted away, not really getting on with his friends and brothers. Always obsessing over their opinion of him. Because he is gay. His name is a joke about shapely butts.

His legion, the Iron Warriors is a joke about 'hard' men.

The pawsting business is tough work.
The Dark Angels are named after the poem "The Dark Angel" by Lionel Johnson, a closeted English poet notable for dying young and having a rocky affair with Oscar Wilde.

The OG version of the Dark Angels' dark conspiratorial secret is that they're gay. That's the joke, and if you're British, The Joke.

The best part is when dark angels players write paragraphs about what the secret could possibly be when the answer is right there. Thermian arguments are the best

I don't think there's any disputing the origin of the names Dark Angels and Lion el`Johnson. I'm not so sure on the other stuff, but the middle aged British guys I drink with at Thai gogo bars definitely think being gay is hilarious.

Gaslands looks really cool, I think I'm going to grab the PDF and read through it while I 3D print some templates.

Anything I should know getting into it? Any rules mistakes to watch for? Is there any kind of 'scene' anywhere for it (although I'm not super worried about this because I've pitched it to a few friends and they all thought it sounded awesome)?

There can’t really be any tournament scene for osprey’s Games because there’s no real incentive to keep huge stock and game nights for their games. It’s too bad since you can play them with anything but an LGS gets maybe one sale from a rulebook and maybe some models for their other games. Takes a lot of money to get really attached to a certain game, like we’ve seen here.

Hell that tidbit was even on the 1d4Chan wiki. The Rock, the DAs HQ, was also the name of a gay bar in Nottingham. The Dark Angels were always a reference to the gay community in the UK, the question is whether the ref was mean spirited.

Most 40k fans don't seem to think so but it's definitely a gay joke. The secret heresy thing is a reference to being in the closet.

This is all true but nevertheless we have a decent sized Gaslands community in Austin and I'm sure there are others out there. It's just the kind of game where you have to get on facebook or whatever and arrange a game in advance rather than wander into a store on "Gaslands night"
