What’s the reading order for books that cover Guilliman returning/the Great Rift opening/current events?

I'd start with Dark Imperium as it's the one that deals most with Gullyman's return and sets up stuff for the current events. The novella part of Crusade and Other Short Stories details a battle between Primaris marines and Death Guard during the Indomitus Crusade. Devastation of Baal actually has a scene that details the opening of the rift, and the effects it has on both the Blood Angels and the Tyranids (it ain't pretty). Finally, the other Space Marines Conquests books (Ashes of Prospero, War of Secrets, and Of Honour and Iron currently) are set after the rift opens, but I haven't read them. There's also the upcoming Dark Imperium: Plague War, the sequel to the first book.

Plague War has been out for a while now. No idea why Amazon doesn't get it until April.

War of secrets and of honor and iron are both really bad. The characters are one dimensional cardboard and the plots are boring.

Plague War and the original Dark Imperium are also a bit poo poo too. I have Devastation of Baal but haven't read it yet, so we'll see how that one goes.

I'd recommend those two Custodes books set on Terra which are great, or anything that has Chaos as the primary viewpoint characters as they're consistently heads and shoulders above the rest of the genre dreck in terms of quality.

Im willing to bet it is because authors are allowed waaay more freedom when writing chaos then they are for any of the other factions.

Lords of Silence is also a good book set during this timeframe and includes a “how does the imperium react to the rift opening” section and examines the very beginning of the “plague war” campaign.

What's the running list of Novels set in the 'Current' post-rift timeframe? Dark Imperium, Devestation of Baal, Lord's of Silence, The Last Hunt, etc?

Chris Wraight's Emperor's Legion (Watchers of the Throne) and I think Carrion Throne is as well, but not as certain. Not sure where it fits in the 41st millennium.

Just to chime in that Emperor's Legion is excellent, and is set just as Cadia falls and spans to the period just after Gulliman's return to Terra.

'The Last Hunt' spoilers: Anyone else kind of annoyed at the out of nowhere Time Travel Deus Ex Machina save at the end of this one? Especially since it doesn't even make sense narratively; why the crap would the White Scars be seeing and sensing themselves clearing out the underside of the city if that was on a different timeline? Not to mention, yo Eldar, if you want the Scars to kill the Tyranid monster under the city and then help kill the Archon, you don't even need to make an alliance with them, you just have to let them know where they are 'cause the Scars are *all* about killing those fools. I mean, sure, good Bolter Porn versus some Tyranids, but really the scripting of this one could use a lot of work. *sigh*

Similar note, can anyone suggest any other White Scars novels? They're growing on me as a chapter, but I've already read Last Hunt, Scars, and Path of Heaven.

If you liked all of these, try Jagathai Khan: Warhawk of Chogoris. It's an inmediate prequel to Scars.

Heaven help me but I'm considering getting into the AoS novels. I need audiobooks and there aren't really any Warham Fantasy ones available and 40k has grown stale for me over the years. The new AoS fluff they did this year has made it a kinda interesting setting now so who knows.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Honsou is a little on the Mary Sue side of things (it is a Graham McNeil book), but he's interesting enough and there's something to be said for a Mary Sue from the other side of the fence. If nothing else the books are fun and inoffensive compared to some of their publishing contemporaries.

There ain't a lot available. Avoid anything prior to the Nagash book. I'm listening to "Soul Wars" right now, but I'm not impressed. The narrator isn't great, and I keep losing interest.

If you can read a paper copy, Spear of Shadows is a pretty good book.
