Have you always been able to make such fantastic posters in XCOM 2 and I've just been lazy, or do you have a mod installed to do that, Nordick? Lovely work, regardless.

I'm a bit late to the grenade/vest/ammo talk, but I just want to add that the venom/incendiary rounds are a flat +1 dmg regardless of the target's resistances. Bluescreen rounds are nice, but cost supplies, while venom/incendiary are basically free as they're a byproduct of getting your tracer&talon rounds, so you might as well use the +1 dmg item that randomly has a chance of utterly ruining a variety of midgame enemies.

I will agree that vests are awful, as are most of the exotic grenade types. There's a LOT to be said for being able to remove cover right now, which is basically most of a grenadiers job, and only normal/plasma nades (and heavy weapons) can do that. Shame.

Acid grenades are nice for shredding big dudes, at least in the mid-game before your grenadiers have the accuracy to just Rupture the sectopod and call it a day.

Fire grenades are nice in theory for debuffing enemies, until you realize that anything you'd want to give a Burning debuff to is better handled by giving them a Not In Cover debuff followed by a Dead debuff instead.

It's not a mod. The ingame photobooth came with WOTC, I think? It's new to me anyways and I just picked up all the DLC. It's really fun to use.

and it also sometimes provides hilarious results from the automatic photos it takes if you don't customize one yourself:

Thanks, I enjoy making them. :)

I do have a few photobooth mods, but none of them are really terribly significant. One adds some filters and effects, but 99% of the time I just use the vanilla ones anyway because the mod ones honestly aren't that great. Another adds a bunch of backgrounds, which are cool enough but nothing revolutionary and obviously not relevant when the booth is in the post-mission environment. I'd say the most significant one is the plugin for One Million Colours that lets me use RGB sliders to pick colours, which can be nice when messing with the Posterize filter as I often do. But, again, it's still not exactly a game changer.

Often I just open the post-mission photobooth and flip through the different locations for a bit, keeping an eye out for anything interesting like conveniently placed props,* nice backgrounds or cool lighting. Then I pick the coolest looking character in the squad and pose them around for a bit to see if inspiration hits me. Other times I basically just skip to the last part, meaning I randomly mess around with whoever I feel like deserves a poster until something clicks.

*: Such as this mannequin here:

Yo this one is cool as poo poo.

Clearly the legend strat we've always overlooked is to get double agent and stack up the right dark events to get a hulked-out muscle trooper :eng101:

I'd quite like a mod that just adds in a bunch of basic advent troopers. No extra stun lancers or priests or anything, just lots more black-armoured dudes with guns to be mown down by the bushel. It bothers me that you see so many of them in cutscenes and the like but on missions it's maybe one or two and then everyone else is some form of specialist/alien.

Perhaps a special event, using similar to lsot coding. Advent training mission. Explosions and officers call in 5+ advent soldiers running in that are debuffed to 2 steps difficulty down in stats. so swarm your legendary game normal difficulty advent, or your commander game with easy grade advent. lower difficulty? eh. less advent

I always thought this was what the downed avenger mission should be. not trying to blow up a doodad but just trying to hold out against a massive swarm of troopers. Killing the officers reduces the effectiveness and spawn rates. Killing all the officers before the avenger is fixed spawns mutons, etc. Climax is dropping two secotpods in and trying to not die in the last couple turns.

This fight is awesome with liberal use of flash bangs and mimic grenades. If you're lucky, the priest will holy warrior one of the zerkers so you can take out both.

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

I saw this mod, which increases pod sizes by force level, and was reminded of the earlier idea to increase the representation of troopers. Perhaps something like this could be made, where as the force level advances, they don't just add higher level aliens, but start throwing more and more grunts at the problem.

You can set the option in the Character Pool screen to "Random only" if you want to be sure none of your Gatecrasher squad are Character Pool, though it will affect your entire starting Barracks. You can then save, go back to main menu, and set it back to random & character pool or character pool only, and then resume your save, and future characters it sends your way will start including character pool friends.

drat, I might have to get that one. If only to get rid of that annoyingly long animation where they slowly sheathe their sword after attacking.

I also wish we could customise the soldiers' looks/loadout in the photobooth, because I forgot to give this guy his customary M60 when going into this mission and this poster would've been so much better with it. :saddowns:

The photobooth randomly-generated poses are pretty goddamn weird sometimes - and not intentionally so, I think. I just finished a mission in the Lazarus campaign that ended with Jane Kelly shoving the muzzle of her shotgun directly into Bradford's back in a distinctly "twitch and you're loving DONE" posture.

Automatically Color Units can do this with some INI edits (just set every class' MainColor and ArmorCamo and change the settings you don't want to alter to -1), but I don't know if there's anything with a nice config UI to do it.

The uniforms mod does this. It lets you pick which items to make global, but I have it set to only change colors and patterns.

If you weren't aware, the MOCX mod actually generates memorial propaganda posters of squads you kill. But it includes people you recruit via stun&fulton, so the propaganda feeling really is there. This is the same soldier in both posters (new recruits get a makeover obviously). I think that's Proto Man on the left there too, who I also recruited by force.

Apparently if you gas grenade the berserker queen she gets very scared and just stands there in the gas cloud forever.

Also notable is that the reaper skill that adds 1 damage if the target has already taken damage this turn applies to any damage over time effects applied by the reaper.

I forgot how stupidly powerful squads can get by the end of the game. Even with attempts to limit it by only giving shredstorms to the psi-op, the skirmisher can just combat presence her so she can stasis, shredstorm, null lance or whatever, meanwhile Bradford's just got a 110% to crit anything on earth. Two campaigns down, not looking forward to Lily's too much because of the lack of Central. :v:

Wotc really took the difficult early game, easy late game curve and exaggerated the extremes. You can also hand the hunter's pistol to a gunslinger sniper with blue screen rounds and watch them reliably 1 action sectopods and gatekeepers.

Jesus! Jesus Christ! Say his name! Jesus! Jesus! Come down now!

In any turn-based system, abilities that affect action economy are going to break balance, that’s just a fundamental law of game design physics. Free actions, extra actions, are absurdly powerful.

It’s why the Rulers were so intimidating - they not only invalidate your most powerful abilities but constrict your turn economy so that every action is a turn.
