Having your Pokemon follow you is one of the most head scratching removals of a past gens features in the series. It was absurdly beloved by the fans and all the models are already in the game so it's not like it would take any sizable amount of work.

It probably would, especially once grid based movement was left by the wayside (sort of) in Gen 6. It's relatively easy to write the code that makes the follower occupy the last grid square previously held by the character. Non-grid based can be done (see escort quests in MMOs), but given they'd have to build it from the ground up, perhaps they felt it wasn't worth it.

I'm very stupid.
I guess animating a following gait/movement for 800 different Pokemon is non-trivial also.

The funny thing is though, they did, at least in the files of Gen 7. But given how much the models they refused to down-scale made the 3DS chug I guess they figured it wasn't feasible.

It's only the Final Battle once all the players are ready.

Or, at least for later 3DS titles, implementing it with battle models would have made the 3DS choke and die, considering that SuMo was already pushing the system to its limits and there's unused walk/run cycles in the games' code for every Pokemon (at least in SuMo, there's no mention of them still being in USUM on TCRF). It would not surprise me if that was a planned feature that they had to scrap early on for performance reasons.

(I can't speak for X/Y and ORAS, mind, since iirc there's no evidence that any following feature was planned for them, but it would not surprise me if system limitations were also an issue there.)

I like the idea of walking Pokemon, but the scale problem does get to me. It wasn't as bad when they were all just simplified sprites, but having your titanic rock snake shrink to about two meters long when released in 3D would look pretty weird.

That said, I do hope that if the Ride Pager doesn't return, we can just use our team's released member as the substitute HMs after getting some special gear for it as the game progresses. If only because seeing how you soar cross-country on a Pidgey or Doduo would be hilarious in 3D.

Curious if anyone who is up to date with the anime has any idea where it's heading now that the upcoming game is another R/G/B/Y remake. Is Ash going back to Kanto again? Will he try to win the Indigo League again? Maybe they'll actually let him win something (Orange Islands being the exception).

Now that I think about it, wouldn't that confuse people watching the current movie series where he's back in Kanto?

They're staying in Alola but Ash is getting an Eevee with a weird haircut as the tie-in to LGPE. And Brock and Misty are making comebacks again.

Like Less Laughter said, just a few things that sorta tie into Kanto, including an Eevee that will hang around.

As for the movies, only I Choose You takes place in Kanto (and it might as well not have after the first twelve minutes), second one takes place in a location and has no reference to the previous one, and we don't really know yet what'll happen with Pokemon Super: Mewtwo.

Also, I forgot to mention:

Rainbow Rocket cleared out! Cyrus gave me fits, as did Giovanni, well sort of. I kept Mimi in my back pocket against Mewtwo and put out Lunala... which he only spammed ice beam on.

Mimi wasn't needed.

Run successful, apart from a few wipes against dark heavy teams.

I've taken my 3DS to the park in the past. I was grinding in Sun and also needed to fill up on items for Go, so I sat in range of 3 stops had myself a little Pokémon-focused afternoon.

3ds is one thing, mine cost less than 100 bucks. But the switch is bigger, has detachable parts, and is more expensive.

To be fair, a new 3DS is a bit more than 100. I think my Galaxy purple n3DS was 200 new, less what I traded in for it.

I got this for a Ratatta on GTS.

Ash still has Charizard under his ownership (or something... Its not been made clear since it can do whatever it wants.) and he even came back onto his team for a time when the ratings were sagging in 2011-2012 or so.

At this point, Ash has had more then 50 or so Pokémon, not even counting those 30 Tauros.

I'm also not entirely sure why people are still disappointed that Pikachu refuses to evolve since its the mascot of the franchise and Game Freak has been trying their best to make fans forget about Raichu.
