I disagree that it's impossible to takeover the party from within to push it left, just very difficult and compromising, and it requires institutions and movements outside of it threatening it, including a leftist third party. If they successfully hold off the Bernie wing of the party the only choice will be a third party

Historically speaking, the only thing that can reliably change an American party ideologically is time in the political wilderness Even then, they could just go the way of the Whigs and slowly die out while a new party fills in the gap

ballotpedia will usually at least point to a new person's website/social media so it can still be a good choice

league of women voters (https://www.vote411.org/) sends out questionnaires to candidates, I've noticed a lot more have been returned lately (at least in my precinct). Candidate responses can be full of political bullshit but it's better than the nothing you'd get on most state or local elections, they'll generally link to the candidate's websites and social media too.

The one lefty guy lost the primary here in Kansas and I don't know whether I should vote or not. I'm assuming the Dem is a succdem cause some volunteer texted me and she wasn't for Medicare 4 All which is like pretty baseline.

Local stuff does matter more though.

I mailed in my ballot today. The documents didn't clarify ID requirements (I don't need one) and it printed out without my middle initial, so it is probably going to be thrown out. Not terribly thrilled about the two offices I could vote for. One guy is a former NBA executive, but he did think Nancy pelosi should retire. Tammy Baldwin...I really don't know. All my democratic candidates from Indiana state legislature on up in my district are overtly pro marijuana legalization, which is a pretty significant leap from even 2016, when it was mostly implied. It's not really an issue I care about, but they're a lot more forceful this go around, especially for the two state legislative districts my county is a part of. I vote straight ticket Democrat regardless, but the candidates have gotten a lot bolder on left-wing issues lately. Tanoos also starred in a movie as the fictional, mysteriously Syrian Orthodox, grandson of Eugene Debbs who ushers in a socialist revolution in Indiana. I may vote Democrat to to spite the Republicans as a matter of course, but I went the extra mile to reward this bizarre masterpiece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_Wp35rNULk

I meant more that marijuana legalization is not my area of expertise, but something I support as a matter of solidarity. My wheelhouse is more the nationalization of health care, preserving regulatory power, supporting unions and subsidizing the guillotine industry. Still, seeing it become the standard Democratic platform is a bonus, especially as my personal whims aren't generally catered to.
