The cover for the latest X-Men annihilation looks incredibly dumb. I'm phone posting so I can't show it to you. Could anyone post that, please?
Just imagine how Jean and Cable have to be standing there.

This was an okay joke, but I'm going to be really disappointed if they just take away Gwen's powers because they would be too difficult to write outside of her own title. I actually considered dropping the title since I was most interested in Gwen being on the team, but I'll give it a little longer to prove itself.

I was actually about to ask if you were going to use Gwen's powers any time soon, and then I read this week's issue. What made you decide to give them the ax? And will there be an in-continuity reason why she can't use them anymore?
As I said to someone else…I have definitely not given her powers the ax. We don’t have enough information yet (and neither does she) about what’s happening. And if pressed I’d say she’s…EVOLVING to fit her new book and narrative…and that would be a power in and of itself…stay tuned.

I like the idea of Gwen's powers changing due to her not being in her own series anymore and being just a supporting character in a team.

Gwen and Quire together is cute, because she's one of the few comic book heroes she could date where she would reasonably be attracted to him, but there would also be inner turmoil like, "ugh, I'm dating Quentin Quire, that guy has a troubled and sometimes contradictory publication history! What am I doing here?".

The Avengers Halloween issue was all about retelling gruesome/macabre stories with Marvel characters, and no it wasn't my cup of tea either. The final ghost story was alright though.

Iron Hammer was extremely good, with a solid Silver Age feel, but then again Al Ewing wrote it so what else would you expect?

I really wish I read anything about it before seeing it on the shelf and assuming this is what it was and buying it. Schadenfreude on me I suppose! The only one I liked and enjoyed was the Deadpool "The Thing" homage, but I would've liked to see it as a full issue one-shot.

She's showed up in Totally Awesome Hulk, Robbie's short-lived GR series, and Spectacular Spider-Man.

I think she's been in cover art for Spider-Geddon, but there hasn't been any in-comic mention of her in the event yet.

I feel like you could have cut one or two of those stories and given the other ones time to breathe and actually be scary. The Daredevil one and the FF one seem like they could be good if they weren't so rushed.

She showed up in Spider-Man/Deadpool a few months back working on some SHIELD team with Mockingbird? Oh and before that she showed up to help stop Amadeus Cho when his inner Hulk took him over. But she hasn't really had a major role in anything, just an extra hero in supporting cast roles.

I don't know how you do that elegantly. Miles is a kid who also has spider powers, Spider-Gwen is a version of Spider-Man's dead girlfriend, also her living father is important to her and that's another death that's important to Spider-'Man

I think it was good up until the Spider-Women crossover then after that it kind of lost its way. It felt to me less like Latour had a real game plan for what to do after Gwen lost her powers and more like he just wanted to do the inevitable Venom story so stripping her of her powers was a means to an end.

Also, and this one is less on Latour, but letting her keep the multiverse watch after Spider-Verse was a big mistake. It introduced stuff like plot holes, and bad crossovers with Spider-Man, and weird plots that didn't really go anywhere... Of course I realize I'm a big hypocrite since even though I think it negatively affected her book, I read and enjoyed every issue of Spider-Exiles Web Warriors.

Wouldn't she just stick around in the world after the current Spider-event? I dunno exactly what the plot is there, but I'd guess you'd want to do that to get her featuring in stuff while the Spiderverse movie is out.

Her series ended with her identity public so it seems like it's going that way? But also her Earth being what-if takes was sort of the whole point, and she has living friends and family with 616 counterparts so it's pretty awkward

Yeah, moving Miles worked because (for better or for worse) his series hadn't been out for too long and because the Ultimate Universe was fairly similar to 616, so most of his supporting cast could make the jump too. Gwen's series also hasn't been out for long, but her world is way different than 616 and basically all of her supporting cast are people who, in 616, either already exist in pretty major roles so they can't just be replaced (like her bandmates) or are dead (like her dad).

I mean I'm sure they probably will move her to 616 anyway now that she's got a supporting role in a movie and a cartoon, but I just think there's no way to force that move that won't suck. But of course, an idea sucking has never stopped Marvel before!

Finally got around to reading WCA and as noted, Gwen does feel disappointingly off so far, and the setup and framing device is too much like the Misfits book from last year (and wasn’t it the same writer?) which just left me wanting Pizazz to show up and take charge. But those niggles aside, it looks great (though the colourist keeps forgetting about Kate’s hip holes) and the story and cast dynamics are otherwise fun so I’ll take it over any other Avengers book right now.

Get Sarah on the team, imo, it needs some magical oomph.

Amazing that in an issue that opens with some AAA+ body horror, it manages to do outdo it with an even more terrifying scene by the end.

Loving how delightfully unsettling the series is shaping up. The art really helps, the Hulk looks like a monster again.
