It all sounds so cool, but looks like the exact same stuff you do on land, just underwater - its the same crashed ship model, the same building models, and the same 'point your HUD at the icon' mechanic for finding 'buried treasure'. Doesn't fix any of the core issues with the game, for me anyway. The new vehicle is cool (although it looks slooooow as heck) but I don't have the patience to work through yet another god-awful quest line to get the blueprint. Does the vehicle shop on space stations mean I can buy blueprints instead?

A while ago I had found an almost-entirely water paradise planet I creatively called "Waterworld" a short jump away from my main base, and when I logged in after the patch it turned out that's where the underwater quest led me which was kind of cool. View of ruins from an island I landed on View of the island I landed on from the ruins Partially-submerged freighter The same freighter up close; this would have been a cool shot if it didn't capture the UI for some reason

So when you load the game were you immediately supposed to be alerted to a new quest? How did you get the sub? Did you just buy it from the analyzer and if so, did you have to unlock certain things first?

I loaded my game from my freighter. When I got into my ship and launched, I got a distress call. Following the quest from there gave me the blueprints for the submarine, then the sonar system, then several underwater base pieces. I'm still following clues so there is probably more to find. The submarine comes without an engine installed but you are given blueprints for that plus fuel at the same time as you find the summoning pad for it. All the sub stuff uses new underwater resources such as Cyto-Phosphate which is mined from minerals and Crystal Sulphide which is harvested from thermal vents similar to how plants are harvested. Aside from these minerals you'll probably want to bring a few hundred units of Salt plus 5 units of Metal Plating if you want to get started as soon as possible. You can also drive most of the normal exocraft on the sea floor, except the Nomad hoverbike because it floats above the water surface. If you build a summoning pad you can summon the vehicle and then deconstruct the pad for a refund. I did this a bunch of times because it was way faster to go back to my ship and fly to an island near the next location in the quest. It's pretty cool so far but I'm not sure how much underwater variety there is because I've only looked at one planet so far. However, on this one planet there were many underwater species of plants and animals, and tons of mineral types. There are also some new treasure deposit types.

Oh man I hope I didn't gently caress it up and not hear the distress call. I thought I heard something but ignored it because I was busy trying to fly to a planet for a quest. Edit: Welp. Just logged back in and no distress signal. I might be hosed. I think I have been in some way or form locked out of every major content update since Next launched now. Impressive. Um. How do you actually fuel the Nautilon? Because mine doesn't seem to have an engine in the inventory. EDIT: Oh, you have to build it. Then go on a underwater journey for 5 solid minutes, which was little more than pressing "W". Bring a book. Two Owls fucked around with this message at 01:04 on Oct 30, 2018 |

I think it is funny that they keep tying blueprints to quests which keep breaking for people because there is no check or means within the game to ensure you can grab a mission or restart it if bugged, (or pick up the reward if it bugs out at the end.)

I bought this at release and got it refunded. Since it's on sale right now and supposed to be much better, is it worth getting the game at -50%?

Sheik Yerbouti posted:I bought this at release and got it refunded. Since it's on sale right now and supposed to be much better, is it worth getting the game at -50%? Fundamentally, the gameplay now is the same as it was when it first released. It's much more refined now but if you didn't enjoy the core gameplay then you probably won't now. If you were looking for an infinite exploration game with pretty screenshot opportunities and the ability to build a space fort anywhere you want, it's pretty good for that though, and way less buggy than it used to be. The biggest change to gameplay since the initial launch is base building, with a distant second being freighters and the whole frigate fleet expedition thing. Outside of those, everything else is just a refinement or expansion of the original release. A lot of the most frustrating elements of the original release are still present, and the game is definitely still quite buggy. The story of the game is a bit better presented, since the game didn't launch with the two story paths IIRC. So like he said, if you hated the core gameplay, you probably won't be won over by the new version. Most of the people enjoying it now I assume are people like me who felt the game was on a the cusp of being good but just wasn't finished.

Thanks for the info. I didn't hate the core gameplay, I just didn't think that the state the game was in at launch justified the price. Guess I'll check it out now.

Welp. Loaded in and warped to new system. Even made sure I picked one that had the "water" tag on it, since I assumed that mattered. Nothing. No distress call. I am out of ideas, mostly because there doesn't seem to be any official documentation for how the heck I am supposed to even get this content. Is it part of the story in that it is gated behind another quest I might not have done yet? Who knows, because there is no explanation and I haven't seen anyone else with the same problem. Feels Bad.

It's possible that there are conditions for starting the quest that I had met but you haven't. I loaded in within a short hop from a nearly all-water planet so maybe you have to be close to such a planet for it to start.

I found out the solution in a reddit post:quote:If you are not far enough through the Artemis questline, the mission will not start. The game will wait for you to get to a certain point first. Completing The First Traveller will allow you to accept the new mission. Also - if you have completed the Artemis quests, try jumping to a new system. That should trigger the new mission. Luckily, I assumed this was the problem and started doing them any way. Also I thought the whole point of choosing paths was that you could opt out of the story quests so tying this to the Artemis Path seems kinda bad? Any way, I am toward the end of the 3rd quest chain, and I need to complete the 5th to unlock the underwater stuff. ToastyPotato fucked around with this message at 21:20 on Oct 30, 2018 |

The first Submerged ruin I find, and... "Submerged". The underwater stuff is pretty cool though. Does the quest chain give you a way to boost the Nautilon or is it always that slow?

A single S rank nautilon engine upgrade (what a goddamn mouthful) bumped top speed while surfaced from 12.5 to 15 metres per second. Just to put that in real terms. They do make a difference.

Is there anyone else who uses an ESDF config and has found any way to rebind things like the build menu? My searching so far is turning up a whole lot of nothing. Best I've found is a reddit post with some changes you can make in the TKGAMESETTINGS.MXML file, but I've changed them and yet the F key still causes things to build whenever I have that menu open. I've also seen people saying that there's some stupidity with the galaxy map, but I'm not far enough along to even see that yet. I'm wondering if I should just give up and refund it. How incompetent of a game dev do you have to be to allow keybindings but still hardcode half your poo poo in tyool 2018?
