I replayed Unloved for the first time in a few years (since it's Halloween) and it's still really good! Until the last quarter of it when they start dumping enormous rooms completely full of enemies and no ammo and no health on you, that part is not as good. Jumping on the pile here but I played through Blood for the first time this year and I went straight through and played it again. Some of the best weapons in early FPS, some really cool maps too, though I thought the enemies were a bit average.

Was it Blood that had a difficulty bug? Loading a save would increase the damage as if you went up a(multiple?) difficulty level?

The archive of my Unloved stream is here if you'd like to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI40fLxGDjQ I wouldn't blame you if you tapped out when the DEEP HURTING begins at the end of the Meat House level revisit. But if you are a glutton for watching others suffer then you will feel right at home.

Call me crazy, but I think I might pickup Overload on PS4 instead of PC. I've never played Descent or any of the "six degrees of freedom" type ship shooting games, but I would imagine the controls would be better with some joysticks under my thumb? Wondering if it's 60fps on consoles. It only came out a few days ago, so there's basically no footage of it out there. Guess I'll find out later today!

I'm not sure how console controls would work for 6DOF since you need 12 inputs and can only express 10 with two analog sticks (4 directions plus click x2). Elite Dangerous only just barely gets away with this, it's not a super twitchy shooter so it's OK that some axes are more awkward than others.

I would imagine the triggers would also serve as some sort of altitude adjustment, but I don't know how the weapons in Overload work if they have secondary abilities or not so idk if that would be a valid mapping.

Overload is a good game but do yourself a favor and buy a Thrustmaster HOTAS 4 with it. I will say, if you have a VR headset, you're doing yourself a disservice not getting it on PC, the VR in Overload is great

They probably put roll on the shoulder buttons or something. Anyway, Descent and Overload both handle just fine with KB+M if you don’t have a flight stick handy.

LORD OF BOOTY posted:ok so i'm setting up old FPS servers for a facebook group I'm in, starting with QuakeWorld Remembered that I wanted to comment on this post from a while back... The basic idea is that Quake server code itself doesn't provide stuff like map lists, warmup times, etc. That's all down to mod code. nQuakesv sets you up with the ktx mod, so if you do any digging for documentation then "ktx" is your term to search for. (And FWIW the server code is "mvdsv" if you want to find stuff on that.) Just from looking at the source I would guess that nQuakesv already gives you the ktx mod installed, but not much configuration except for the "matchless" mode which is just rolling games without warmups. You can see the gist of map rotation setup in that config file there though. If what you're seeing currently on the server is the dm2/dm3/e1m2 rotation indicated in that cfg file, and you're cool with the rest of the server behavior and just want to change the maplist, then all you need to do is edit that file. Just to be clear, you're not restricted to 3 maps; you can go crazy if you like. If you're looking to make more extensive changes, unfortunately I'm not up on ktx setup these days, and I don't see any help on a quick Google. I do have a VM still lying around with the ktx servers on it that I used to run for a LAN-party group. e: Found those old server configs and put them up here: https://spideroak.com/browse/share/jbaxterjl/q1server (there's a bit more commentary about the folders/files if you hover over the info icon) For DM we were using FFA-with-warmup rather than "matchless", so our config for that was the default.cfg in this directory: https://spideroak.com/browse/share/jbaxterjl/q1server/q1_server/common/ktx/configs/usermodes/ffa/ JLaw fucked around with this message at 19:26 on Nov 1, 2018 |

I set mine up with X+Y movement on the left stick, Yaw and Pitch on the right, the left and right stick presses control Z (left is up, right is down which maps well to the positions of the sticks on XBOX controllers) and Bumpers control Roll. It ends up being quite intuitive to play this way.

A.o.D. posted:Shoutout to Stabbey_the_Clown for helping test my map. Tried the full version. After a few attempts, I was able to survive the Arch-vile fight in the generator room. I think part of my problem is that the light-amp is set to use green tint (still haven't found a setting to turn that off) which means any big hits don't have the flash of red so I don't notice my health being too low. I like the change to the platform imps, they're now actually something which needs to be dealt with. The second arch-vile from the teleporter was a bit of a problem for me since I had already expended all my plasma and rockets, so I needed to play some hide and seek for a little while, but I prevailed. I was even able to get 100% of everything on the level this time. david_a posted:The green light amp in GZDoom is called “enhanced night vision” or something similar in the settings I looked for something like that. I had a hard time adjusting to the idea that most of the damage I was face-tanking was permanent due to a lack of supplies to scrounge up. If the mod wasn't so stingy with health packs and ammo for the big guns I'd have a lot more room for error!

I'll have to remember to ask you to test my Map 11 replacement once I finish it up, since the gimmick is that you need to make a big circle around the circle-shaped map four times, with limited places to resupply.

What's the best way to play Blood in Windows? win7, 64 bit, if it matters. I have it on gog, but it says "one whole unit" which I believe is what the front end wrapper I used to have for Blood was called. I'm curious if there's a better way. david_a posted:Is there an equivalent effect if you get pushed into a 32768 tall ceiling? Too lazy to go to my computer and mess around. You can't have a 32768-tall ceiling. Max is 32767. That said if you have a floor that's at 32704 and it raises 64 units, it'll end up at -32768 height by the magic of integer overflows.

david_a posted:Is there an equivalent effect if you get pushed into a 32768 tall ceiling? Too lazy to go to my computer and mess around. 32767, but no not really. Not sure what happens exactly but height collisions (z pos + height of actor) are tested a little bit differently, plus if a wrap around where to occur you'd just end up below the floor, and the next movement will consider that you've landed and put you back. Not really useful for anything.

I'm back again to invite you guys to another night of playing a normally dead multiplayer Half-Life mod. Tonight we're going to be playing The Specialists, so if you have fond memories of playing it a ton and want to do so again or you never got a chance to try it and are having a difficult time getting a crew together to play it, this is a chance to see what the game was like. Also hopefully have some fun. Also, probably no RPing. Just regular old jumping around and killing stuff. The server will be at server.kuoushi.com:27015, and we'll be starting at 10pm PST. So just join up around then and start playing.
