linear games are good when the rest of the systems are fun, but there was like nothing fun about ff10. oh god those puzzle dungeons were the loving worst thing in almost any game i've played. The only other single player ff that is more poo poo than 10 is 13. what a disaster. a lot of the story stuff in 10 is stupid, but the overall idea behind the story is kind of cool though enough that I beat it once

FFX had good combat, good music, an interesting levelup system (especially on the international sphere grid), cool visuals, a good story, engaging characters (...mostly) and is an overall fun experience

Also both 10 and 13 have really good combat.

Kimahri is really good if you know what you're doing but will suck on everyone's first playthrough (You're supposed to spend his early levels filling in some random spheres in the middle then break into Rikku's path the instant you get a level 1 key sphere, and he's suddenly a second copy of Rikku)

FF10 had a lot of cool ideas but none of it felt really coherent or tied together for me, likely because it was the first next-gen attempt. I adored the aesthetic concept of the tropics, but hated the majority of outfits and styles, didn't like many of the characters, and felt the plot was a dud EXCEPT for the ending parts like Zanarkand I dunno FF10 just felt like a fantastical idea that went the entirely wrong way of executing it

FFX is one of like two Final Fantasies that actually feels like a cohesive world with its own logic and sense of history than a pastiche of whatever fantasy + sci-fi tropes its creators thought were cool at the time.

Anyway, here's a section from the Wikipedia page for King's Quest V I thought was funny: quote:The owl Cedric accompanies the protagonist Graham through the entire game to provide commentary and advice. He has to be rescued from danger at several points. The only useful thing the owl does is inadvertently saving Graham's life from a spell near the end of the game.

Hate that owl so much. Like I think the developers are assholes because you need his dumb rear end in order to beat the game otherwise it's unbeatable. Man game mechanics back then were brutal. Oh what's that? You forgot to do a thing or pick up an item? We wont' tell you it's important UNTIL the last loving second. Enjoy the RESTART. Bitch. (specifically Sierra Adventure games)

Being serious, I would argue that X and X-2 taken as a pair is one of the highest points Final Fantasy reaches, period. Do not loving @ me about the audio drama.

I have no idea what people see in X-2, I got to chapter 3 and immediately the game became unplayable because I kept getting 1 shot by random encounters. Like what the gently caress was that about, was I supposed to grind in chapter 2 or something?
