They are, and as people age they tend to get more conservative. But the problem with the "baby boomer" generation is that there are so drat many of them it creates an imbalance. (It's why they are called baby boomers - there was a baby boom after WWII). That said, lengthening life spans could perpetuate a similar imbalance in the future once the baby boomers die off.

Also, we kept former Braddock mayor and shaved gritty John Fetterman on a course for the presidency of the US by electing him to the lieutenant governor position.

One again folks, we won, and we won so very very much. Perhaps the biggest win I've ever seen, outside of one. 2016, does everybody remember that one? Nobody thought I could win. The FAKE NEWS MEDIA said Hillary.... Crooked Hillary, that she was going to win. 99% chance of winning, that was some of it. And yet.... we did it, folks. The largely ignored people, you people, you told the swamp you were tired and ready for me, Donald Trump, to become President. And last night you did it again. I've said it before, we did so well in primaries. Republicans won so many primaries, more than ever before. And last night, we won the Senate. That's never happened, Obama never did, no administration ever did. There's a saying they've been telling me "You win the President, you lose the Senate." Abe Lincoln said that and it's true, so very true, but we won the Senate. And what does that say? People are loving our tax cuts! And our 2A, that's.... 2nd amendment, that's what I call it. 2A. 2A or not 2A, that is it. And now the Democrats control the House, but let's be honest.... they already did. They obstructed me every step of the way, and still will, but we have gotten so much done. The Wall will be built, Hillary will be locked up, and we will save Obamacare..... but that name? We're calling it Trumpcare now, because I'm Donald Trump. And we will protect you from preexisting conditions, so much, so many conditions. I had a phone call last night from a man, a great guy in Texas. He said "Mr. President, Mr. Trump, sir. I have cancer, and Beto O'rou.... Beto just told me I can't get health care." And that's why Ted won. Lyin' Ted. Standing Ted, standing tall..... great guy. That wife? I mean.... she's no Ivanka, am I right? No Melania. But she's pretty good for Ted Cruz, he did alright I guess. So many other great Republicans won last night. And many who embrace MAGA. Even Bernie Sanders, Crazy Bernie I call him. Even he called me and said "Mr. President, wow, you did so well. You know they'll hate me for saying this, they really will, but I think you've got some great ideas." So maybe Crazy Bernie isn't so crazy? I don't know, nobody knows this.

Still though, O'Rourke actually managed to make it a real fight and not a loving cakewalk - we had huge voter turnout here and twice as many of the over 65 crowd showed up this time as compared to the 2014 midterms and he still only won by less than 4%.

marktheando posted:Wait, the republicans gained two senate seats? How? Different senate seats come up for election at different times. This was a particularly difficult senate election year for democrats because they had 26 seats up for reelection and the republicans only had 9. In 2020 those numbers will be almost reversed (but not quite)

marktheando posted:Wait, the republicans gained two senate seats? How? There's still a lotta dumb people in the world. Florida was won by the over 50 white people (so the old retired CHUDs) and Texas was pretty similar. Democrats had way more to lose in the Senate race and this was pretty much expected, even in the most optimistic of views. Last night was still pretty huge and should not be dismissed. For the GOP to lose so much in the House, despite crazy low unemployment and a strong stock market is big. Plus don't dismiss how strong the turnout was and specifically how many young people voted. This is a very good thing both short-term and long-term.

This election has convinced me that Trump will fairly easily get re-elected in 2020. Most of the American people clearly love him. I had allowed myself to think that most yanks are appalled by Trump, and there would be a blue wave, impeachment etc, but the results prove that’s just a fantasy.
