I have two questions for the thread:

1) Trump is very much shook right now, correct?

2) How on earth did the Senate majority grow?

Yeah the bigger problem is that I think support there has way less to do with policy or self-interest and pure tribal identity. The Republicans could campaign on “we will kill your dog” and the dem on “we’ll grant your wishes” and the Republican would win.

Well this hasn't been tested because Republicans run on "brutalizing minorities and giving money to the rich will make your life better" and Democrats run on "better ideas will never ever happen"

I mean, McConnell has been crippled by his rating being even lower than hers.

1) Yes, has been since before the election.

2) This was always a possibility. The map was catastrophically bad for Democrats this year and they only ever had a slight chance of winning. They came close.

I'm glad to hear that. If I could trust that she'd say more stuff like this and less stuff like she did last night (or last year, with her "We're capitalist!" nonsense), I'd be happy to have her stay on as Speaker.

How on earth did "Dems are favored to win the senate" become so cemented in people's minds :psyduck:

Duckworth says now not time for Sanders' 'Medicare for All' healthcare fix
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local...53a0bc11ed.html

quote:

I just don’t think the Sanders proposal is achievable. … I know he is (taking) a philosophical stand, but I just don’t think we are in a time right now where we should be taking these very strong stands when we have real work to try to fix it. … What can we do to shore up the exchanges, what can we do to make sure the White House makes the payments (to subsidize some plans)? I am actually interested in what Chris Murphy (Democratic senator from Connecticut) is working on, the idea of buying in to Medicare.

Q: What do you say to the argument that that is just a foot in the door to a single-payer system?

A: Maybe it is. All I know is that I have a lot of people in Illinois who have no other options and would love Medicare buy-in, and it would make a difference in their lives.

Q: Why make it 55 (the trigger age for buying into Medicare pushed by Democrats)? What’s wrong with opening it to anyone?

A: For me it is about realistically implementing something. I just don’t know that we have the capacity to go straight to everybody. … I have always had good government-provided health care, either through the military or the VA. So I understand how good it can be and I also understand and I know the frustrations of the bureaucracy and the ineffectiveness of the system. So I think have to do a very measured approach. But we need to move forward.

drat.

Edit: But that was a year ago. Maybe her position has changed now that the things she was hoping would happen didn't.

I don't wanna be a dick but let's keep ourselves in the real world. Winning the house is very good. Losing seats in the Senate is very bad. We're looking at a difficult Senate map in 2020 and Republicans getting judges passed through the Senate is the most destructive thing they've done and will continue to do.
