What's disgusting is the calls to violence that the President is making on television is actively making people crazier and new shootings keep happening that are perpetrated by his supporters. Republicans are already voting on the assumption that the Democrats are going to ban all guns. By backing off the issue you are just allowing the notion this nightmare should be normal to continue. It's like saying that we can't use leftists messaging when they are already calling Nancy "we are capitalists" Pelosi a socialist extremist in ads targeting right leaning Democrats. We need to actually have concrete positions and fight for stuff instead of meekly letting the right dictate every narrative since oh no they might say the Democrats are bad.

We have to try otherwise we are complicit in perpetuating the slaughter of innocents. A friend of mine remarked to me this morning that she went to a concert and there was a prevailing thought in her mind that there was a nonzero chance someone could walk in and start shooting. People are having these thoughts more and more in places where large groups congregate, that is what is truly terrifying. Large numbers used to make us feel safe, now it makes us a target. No one is safe from this kind of violence and it needs to stop.

I was actually in a bar/grill last week seeing live music and I found myself sort of mentally mapping the building and noting where the exits were, just in case. This is America.
