Someone I followed long ago on Twitter got really salty after JB was immediately called as the winner last night. Went on and on about how he should flee the state like everyone else he knew. I told him to "do it, you pussy." He blocked me shortly thereafter. He's not going to do it. Republicans from the burbs always forget that Chicago and to collar counties are the ones paying for the rest of the state. I imagine she runs again in 4 years, I don't know who else the Republicans send up for governor, but it's a long ways away. Unrelated, but I was looking up various results and I found that the IL Senate 21st district is currently separated by 12 votes. Laura Ellman DEM 47,464 50.0% Michael Connelly REP (i)47,476 50.0% That, and for all the talk about how much Republicans hate Madigan, they don't even bother to run anyone against him. I know it's a lost cause, but you would think they would at least make him work for it. Bird in a Blender fucked around with this message at 22:42 on Nov 7, 2018 |

I'd be fine with that, we should do it for all politicians. Take an office, spend time in jail proportional to how long you sat there.

When I roasted her for trying to doxx me at a fake employer, she tried the Pee-Wee Herman "I meant to do that" defense and then when that didn't work, she blocked me. Yes, most proposals I see are for anything south of I-80 to be broken off. Downstate Illinois would be as poor as Mississippi without the Chicago area.

quote:“Instead I think we’ll focus on what it takes to balance a budget right away,” he said when asked when he’ll introduce a proposal. “We’ve got to work with the legislature and listen to people. Because we’ve got to get 60 percent of the House and the Senate to support a constitutional amendment and then 60 percent of the people of the state to vote for it. And so in order for that to happen we need to make sure that all the ideas are incorporated here. Including the ideas of Republicans.” No you don't you disingenuous motherfucker you have veto-proof supermajorities in the House and Senate, you don't have to do anything Republicans want ever. Sure, everyone talks unity and bipartisanship, but generally, it's in vague generalities, and not starting to slow walk a major campaign promise.

A con-con is going to need bipartisan support. 60% is a lot of people. Pritzker won by a landslide and only got 54%. Even 2012 Obama only got 57%. If we start talking about raising taxes or cutting pensions you're going to lose quite a bit of Dem support off the top as well.

The marijuana stuff seems like a no-brainer. It has massive support within the public. It would bring in some new revenue and jobs. Help rural areas that are hurt in the traditional farming industries. Help urban areas by providing new retail business. Probably enhance tourism too. Then the massive affect it has on the law side. Getting rid of bullshit stops and searches because you "smell some weed". No more bullshit arrests over having a little weed. Unclogging the courts and prison system. I know it comes down to Madigan who has been on the fence (and likely just looking to whoever will line his pockets first). But if the Democrats in this state would like to garner some goodwill right away with a lot of people, this should be a priority. With that said it won't happen.
