It's kind of humanizing to see real emotion from him, but it's also a good example of his sociopathy or whatever that the guy who can chop people up for fun and seethe at a woman about how much he hates "lying bitches" can't possibly imagine why someone, particularly said woman, might try to kill him. It's kind of funny really; at first that feels like a moment where you might feel some sympathy for him or start seeing him as more than a flat monster, like some people here did, yet if you start thinking about it it's a reflection of just how messed up he really is.

That he is able to display positive emotions towards people that don't involve murdering them does make him even more monstrous because of his other behaviour and that makes him far more interesting than if he just remained the hyper competent serial killer he was just portrayed as being before.

Yeah it's not under his thumb he is just their benefactor and allied with them. However the whole murder group thing is new. Morena just recently took control of the group (And appears to have had most of it killed off so she could do her murder thing.)

He has largely given that impression so far. The way he talks and acts make him seem like an intelligent affable, and funny guy, however he is a horrible person who enjoys murdering people for fun and collecting body parts.

Every time Rihan shows up he has a massive internal monologue. It makes sense given his ability and personality and stuff, but jeez, I think maybe a quarter of the pages he's on have almost nothing besides him except words.

Chapter is very interesting though. I was thinking that Kurapika's two week Nen training would involve using Steal Chain to awaken people, but I didn't think he'd actually be this open about it. His training regimen makes sense though; get them able to grasp the basics, then forcefully awaken them to fast-forward their training without risking them just collapsing and losing consciousness. That was a risk of "baptisms" from the first time we heard of them and a thing Killua and Gon had to overcome back in Heaven's Tower, and most of these people shouldn't pick things up that fast.

I want to see another group's translation, though, as a few parts seemed questionable and I know there were at least a few mistakes, like Seiko being referred to as a prince rather than a queen and Woble once again being referred to as male. Same for Tubeppa actually.

Oh, I'm fine with it myself. It's just noticeable to me that one character in particular has such massive internal monologues in most of his appearances that he has a few pages where most of the panels are just words. The manga is dense at times, but Rihan's moments are especially egregious.

Man, those last three pages were tough. The 'problem' is that there are three inner monologues in a row, not one. First one is from Rihan, second one is from Rihan but he switches to thinking about his work mate being killed (the soul-controlled Benjamin guard who killed himself) without any 'warning' and got me confused, and third one is Tsubeppa.

This chapter was perhaps the weakest one of the current batch. Usually slow chapters like this serve to build suspense, but in this case the chapters had lots of meditation about things the reader know the real truth. Bibamaina and the other guy meditating about Kurapica's TRUE intentions... we know already his true intentions. Rihan meditating about what TRULY happened with the death of the guard who shot himself... we know already, he was possessed by Sumidori. So not that much suspense gained.

Knowing what they think explains what theyre going to do next in response.
This is an arc thats essentially an information war and about who knows and who doesnt, and what they'll do to protect or gain it.

I actually liked Rihan's textdump, because he's being deliberately left in the dark and having to figure things out on his own, and while he's arriving at mostly-correct conclusions we already know, him questioning his orders and wanting to go for other targets is an interesting development.

On a tangent from that, I also like that the obviousness of Kurapika's chains is actually working in his favor; all three of Benjamin's guards who are trying to figure him out have assumed that he has five abilities, one per chain, and this knowledge is forcing them to be cautious because, well, gently caress, who knows what he has? A Specialist with five abilities? Even with what they've figured out about one (and they've only guessed at its side-effect rather than its actual purpose) it's gotten them almost nowhere. I just thought it was neat, because for all his secretiveness, Kurapika's chains are right there, so anyone who knows about Nen should realize they're not just a fashion statement, which seemed like he was tipping his hand a bit in the past. Turns out it gives his opponents just enough information to trip them up.

If Kurapica's nen course ends here (even if it seems to really continue in the backdrop, between chapters), maybe next part will be Kurapica's collaboration with Tsubeppa, it will be a chance for this Prince to have time on the limelight. I remember there was a youtube video with an interview with Togashi a the start of the arc, and you could see a big sheet of characters, and there was one for Tsubeppa faction, with a pair of rows of characters who haven't appeared for now, of scientific-looking nerds.
Also, that will give a chance to have a great duel of analytic minds: Kurapica vs Rihan.

I actually LOVE when Togashi shows smart characters reaching wrong conclusions with incomplete information, because it really emphasizes the factional nature of the problem. Same reason why Welfin was one of the best characters in Ant Arc - him figuring out "Komugi" doesn't feel like an asspull at all, because we know so much about how his mind works already.
