When people talk about Roberts "gutting the Civil Rights Act" in Shelby County v Holder, that's what they're talking about. Some places with a history of discriminatory election practices we're basically on probation, or I believe the technical term was pre-clearance. If they wanted to make changes to how they did elections, they had to run it by a federal judge who would make sure it wasn't discriminatory. If you managed not to try anything discriminatory for 10 years, you were considered reformed and didn't have to do pre-clearance anymore. A bunch of places were unable to go more than 10 years in between being racist assholes about elections. And as soon as that section of the voting rights act was struck down, a bunch of the places that had required pre-clearance immediately implemented discriminatory redistricting maps, voter ID laws, and other changes to how they ran elections.

In 2016 it took them a week to get to my vote, and then throw it out. But they apparently aren't throwing votes out for bad sigs this year, they're confirming people's identities in some other way. been a few count updates today for the sinema/mcsally race but sinema has so far been consistently remaining 8k-9k ahead of mcsally also it's a case of republicans getting owned by their own voter suppression tactics, the recorders are actually going through and verifying the signatures and the republicans desperately want them to stop

The Supreme Court came to the realization that all the voting rights issues in America had been solved, so they got rid of the laws that would prevent governments from blatantly rigging elections. You know, because they could be trusted, now, not to do that sort of thing.
