finished as much as I could before my stylus broke! Tried a couple new ideas for simulating wood grain, and neither worked as well as I’d hoped, buuut it looks fine.

Generic anime headshots are my crutch, but I'm trying to get in the 'draw a day' habit and starting in easy mode isn't the worst idea.

I don’t have a stylus anymore, and I can’t draw with my finger very well, so here’s a flan who’s really happy to be a flan. I also figured out how to do woodgrains. The answer is “cheat with downloaded textures and a mesh transform layer”.

Still trying to settle on a design for this character. I think I'm getting somewhere now. I'd still like to add blue tones somewhere, but I couldn't figure out anything I liked using blue in this one. Mostly I'm worried that there won't be enough colour contrast in the leg area to make this work well in the very small sprite sheet.

For the past six or seven years I've been using a Wacom Bamboo, with a roughly 4" x 6" working surface. Today I got a previous-generation iPad, my very first 'draw on the display surface' tablet. Working on getting a handle on Procreate's controls.

Found a picture from last year, which is useful for measuring. I'm practising blocking out shades on a large scale. Now: Previous: [timg]https://i.imgur.com/o0GzYRi.png[[/timg]

I also wanted to redraw something I made July 7th 2017 when I was first forcing myself to get used to drawing stuff with a tablet. Also I'm mad that I can't play the fancy new tetris right now. coolusername posted:i kind of love this?? The underside of the jaw gets real complicated real fast as a consequence of the number of muscles crammed into such a small space. I find that the Loomis method starts to break down the more extreme the tilt of the head gets. One method I sometimes use to try and conceptualize extreme tilts is a "coke can" head: The most prominent feature of extreme head tilts is the curved horseshoe shape of the underside of the skull as it begins to wrap around the various muscles that attach to the base. By cutting a hole in the middle of the coke can (a simple cylinder), you can define the curve of the underside of the jaw in space in a specific enough way that you can then start to figure out the rest of the features. Using box shapes and adding more angles into the construction can also help you to conceptualize the planes. Realistically, a lot of it simply comes down to practice and study: the more you fumble around with it and figure out the major curves and angles, the easier it becomes to start figuring it out in space. As always, Stan Prokopenko has a good video on it if you want a more detailed explanation.

I think the change of styles is hurting you - the contrast between pixel-graphics and vector-style lines hurts both. You might have some joy with artificially pixellating your larger figures?

Turns out ice rinks are really fun places to draw people. The local pop-up one even has a warm caff for me to lurk in! Also, I'm a massive fan of watercolour gesture work with a flat brush, just discovered it and it makes me very happy.

I haven't drawn anything for the last few years until I took another figure drawing course this semester for fun and have been enjoying working with newsprint and quick poses again. I've been wanting to do more so today I messed around in digital with the help of some random pose site that grabs pose photos off Deviant Art or something. 10 minute poses from photos: Some 10 minute poses from class: I need to figure out what kind of brushes/settings I want to be using for line drawings/sketches, and put some time in on practicing heads/faces/hands/feet. I think I also tend to have some leg length and/or head size issues. I've made a lot of improvement on how quickly I can construct a figure though, it used to take me ages.

:3 Thanks all, I really enjoyed doing them! I think the colours really helped bring them to life.folder posted:Oh nice idea... gonna give that a go. Do you work from studies or just make the drawing fit the brushstroke? I did a real quick gesture study with the brush, just three or four chunky marks while I could catch someone's pose, then went back in with a pen once the colour was dry. I was using a 3/4" flat brush on A4 paper, which was maybe a bit thick - 1/2" might have worked better.
