we’re in the middle of a political realignment and anyone telling you what lessons they took from 2016 on the makeup of the new coalitions is bullshitting you. but the real lesson everyone should take from 2016-18 is that most members of the establishment, on both sides, are incredibly incompetent

I noticed that Pennsylvania, a state that was recently forced to un-gerrymander itself by the Supreme court and which has 18 seats total in the House, will now have 9 Ds and 9 Rs. I wonder if that's just a coincidence.

The state house and senate are still red as well despite an overwhelming vote majority cast for democrats. Just another enjoyable reminder that our 'representative democracy' doesn't actually do that

Trump blowing off the doors really showed that the narrow conventional wisdom was completely wrong. Now Republicans have to figure out if they want to embrace what he embodies or pretend he never happened and go back to how things were, while Dems are fighting over their own direction. Political science profs must be frantically rewriting books about this
