"20-something who never quite managed to become a pokemon trainer" is exactly the story I have wanted to see from pokemon, and seeing real life humans interacting with pokemon owns. I'm excited for this.

When this was announced I wasn't interested at all. Now? I want a Pokémon cinematic universe. gently caress Detective Pikachu, we need actual Pokémon stories in this style.

The humor here is accessible to multiple audiences. the key to something like this is to make the fantasy characters look like they inhabit the same world as the rest of the fictional environment. I always assumed Jigglypuff had like, really really short fur/hair. The thought of it just being a sentient hairless balloon is actually pretty horrifying

Yeah, after the initial shock value wore off, I think this is one of the better directions they could have taken the Pokemon from a looks standpoint. Stick too closely to the original style, and they'll stand out badly since the movie is taking place in a real world setting.

I watched that trailer fully expecting to hate it and.... didn't? It's just the right level of camp and cheese, and played completely straight. The movie knows it's dumb and just owns the hell out of it. Going to see it for sure!
