Since the premiere of Detective Pikachu's trailer there are many questions about how pokemon would exist in the real world If Pokemon existed in the real world, would they have inalienable universal rights or be exploited by a capitalist system? Examples: Machokes are used for manual labor, such as Furniture moving services but did they consent to this? Is this indentured servitude? When Hillary Clinton told people to Pokemon Go to the Polls, did she not know that pokemon are not a monolith?? Their political alignments should not be appropriated by a single major party imo

pikachu is the most popular and well-known pokemon in our reality because it's the mascot of the pokemon franchise but in a world with actual real live pokemon the most popular pokes would probably be really boring but accessible species like skitty or lilipup pikachus would probably be considered a difficult to handle exotic or perhaps even a public nuisance/pest due to its rodent nature

it never made sense to me why team rocket wanted pikachu so much when they have literally the only talking human language pokemon in the entire world which is worth prob 100000x than pikachu I mean just imagine if you had a talking dog irl he'd get his own talk show and poo poo instead of wondering around the wilderness stalking a 10 yr old boy

ShriekingMarxist posted:wait wait wait wait wait pokemon already mirrors the real world in the games, the technological levels are similar and it functions as a capitalist democracy (or does it?), there are goods and services exchanges for money, infrastructure such as trains and modern housing etc. so there's no need to trend it as human civilization developing with pokemon, otherwise it would have looked very different

how would you deal with pollution when you have pokemon like muk or grimer, as the pokedex entry states "Its purple sludge body contains a variety of pungent bacteria, which are so potent that it renders soil barren and incapable of supporting plant life" would they be disposed of as an environmental hazard?

The Pokemon world is a robust social democracy, presumably based on the super exploitation of Pokemon. Trainers have their needs met and Pokemon revived for free, but the commodity form still exists, as we see in the market for Pokeballs, Potions, etc. The existence of large corporations such as Silph Co. and Devon Corporation seems to indicate that capitalism is also present and advanced.
