They knew what Brexit meant. The problem is it meant "We need to whip up ignorance and hatred towards immigrants", nothing to do with sound governance, and oops the first part won so the second part is getting turbo-hosed.

As of right now I would say that the US and UK are tied for self-owns. We both have "unstable" governments (compared to what is expected for a country of this level of advancement) but there's still time to correct those mistakes. If come March 30th, 2019 they actually do it, then the UK will be forever be the kings of shooting yourself in the foot.

We both have "unstable" governments (compared to what is expected for a country of this level of advancement) but there's still time to correct those mistakes. Hey don't forget us in the land downunder, where the government: - Spilled the prime minister, did not provide a reason why (he wasn't hardline right wing enough and wanted to talk about Climate Change) - Replaced him with the least popular candidate who tortured children in detention camps - Proceeded to bomb even further in the polls - Former leader resigned from Parliament, and then they lost his blue ribbon seat that they had held since 1903 to an independent who wanted to talk about climate change - PM leaked during the by election campaign that they were considering moving the embassy to Jerusalem to garner the 10% Jewish vote - they lost it, and created a diplomatic incident with our closest neighbour, (the mostly Muslim) Indonesia - They have 2 MPs in the house (which they no longer hold a majority in) who are constitutionally ineligible to be MPs due to pecuniary interests - one owns several childcare centres which receive government subsidies, the other invested in a company after it was awarded a government grant; but the government claims they're fine refuses to refer them to the High Court to actually test their innocence. - The independants now have the balance of power in the house and may vote to refer both to the high court, which if they are found ineligible, will triggering by-elections which they will absolutely lose to the Labor party, which will trigger an election, which they will also absolutely lose. But they won't call an early election because they haven't figured out a way to steal it yet. And this is all since Mid October.
