Holy Hell.

It's not weird at all and calling it weird is a further example of our collective inability to call out Trump for bad faith statements.

Trump knows the Kashoggi case makes him look terrible since he isn't doing poo poo about it (and his administration may even be complicit in it). Therefore he is using a basic propaganda technique - making people think we can't know what really happened (or 'annihilation of truth') - to paper over his own bullshit response.

This isn't weird in the slightest when properly viewed as a propagandist trying to weaken public understanding of a damaging news item.

Yeah, it seems like a big problem here is a lack of options. Pelosi sucks, but there aren't a ton of people who want the job or are even qualified for it. There's not exactly much in the way of leadership in the democratic parties these days, and you have to be bland and milquetoast as gently caress to keep this enormous blob of people together because dems are less of a party in terms of identity and more of a loose coalition that bonds together every two years during elections before falling apart.

WASHINGTON — President Trump declared his unswerving loyalty to Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, on Tuesday, declaring that the prince’s culpability in the killing of the journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, might never be known.

“It could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event — maybe he did and maybe he didn’t!” Mr. Trump said in a remarkable, eight-paragraph, exclamation-point laden statement that appeared calculated to end debate over the American response to Mr. Khashoggi’s killing.

“We may never know all of the facts surrounding the murder of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi,” Mr. Trump said in the statement, which read like a verbatim transcript of the president’s off-the-cuff musings. “In any case, our relationship is with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

It seems to me that progressive Dems are setting up to challenge the Speakership in 2020, which makes sense from my layman perspective. No point in becoming Speaker now when you can’t actually pass anything.

Edit: honestly it wouldn’t 100% surprise me if Pelosi steps down gracefully and supports Lee or someone like her in 2020, now that the Blue Dogs have tried to take her out twice.

I've said it before, my eyes are on the lower leadership positions because that'll tell us a lot about where a post-Pelosi House is headed.

Trabniskof a bit ago made the best Pelosi Bad argument I've seen, which is that the lack of other qualified people is at least a LITTLE bit her fault. I agree with this now that I have watered the wording down. :v: Even if we weren't all looking for a more progressive Democratic party we should still be hoping she prepares a new good Speaker because she's almost 80 years old and that's only really an acceptable age for Bernie Sanders, who will be kept strong and vital for another twenty years by the socialism burning in his heart.
