I think I have ten bucks worth of the old Saddam Dinar for novelty and another ten bucks worth of the current stuff because that's what they gave me when I bought a DVD once. It's probably sitting in Ye Olden Chest of Army poo poo that I haven't looked at in a decade.

The last decade has been crystal clear that the stupider a tech business plan is the harder the stock pops so I will definitely be getting in on FaceCeption on IPO day. Just look at HMNY's lucrative awful decisionmaking. First huge pop is when they merged with "Zone Industries", a similarly racist effort to use demographics and social media data to algorithmically produce the precrime bureau. Second is when they bought Moviepass. They're nominally an oil services company. The market can remain irrational longer than you can maintain faith in humanity.  Hearing about a company and saying "That's the stupidest goddamn thing I have ever heard in my life" is the best buy signal going right now.

My favorite thing is how (book 4+ spoilers) an alien gateway network is opened up to a thousand Earth-like worlds, and Mars doesn't see it as a blessing but rather as an existential crisis, because their people have been raised to believe that they need to toil to create a habitable world that they'll never live to see... but now they don't.

I've been reading three body problem (well I'm on the second book now) and it's pretty good sci fi but it's definitely a lot different than western books. It's also a lot more critical of the chinese government than I thought it would be
