In High School, I worked for a bakery that primarily made soft pretzels, and bread. They opened a retail soft pretzel place at a local mall, and in addition to pretzels we sold corn dogs. We sold them plain, or dipped in melted CheezWhiz. They were absolutely to die for when the batter, and oil were absolutely virgin fresh. I always made it a point to make and eat the very first one when we changed the fryer oil, and made a new batch of batter. They were mind blowingly awesome.

They are also amazing when made from frozen in a hot air fryer.

Alright serious question: I like corn, but why does east Asia have such a fascination with it? Is it because it blends well with their overly sweet food?

I can't speak for Korea of China, but Japan doesn't. Don't base your perceptions of cuisines on what gets posted ITT

Corn definitely gets used in unusual ways in Japan, but it's mostly because there isn't the fairly arbitrary fruit=sweet, veg=savoury distinction. Sweet potato is often treated as a sweet snack/dessert, for example.

Chips and cheese are great, but I can't imagine how it would work with pineapple. Except I also can't stop thinking about it and know I'll end up trying it at some point while drunk.

Call it Hawaiian Poutine, add some sort of meaty gravy or chunks of ham or bacon, and would.

Like I said it's def used in unusual ways, but Aesop Poprock asked why East Asia was obsessed with it and they aren't, or at least Japan isn't. I'd say corn products are no more common or commonly consumed in Japan than in the US.

I encounter very little corn in the US compared to China, Korea, or Japan. Excess, dare I say loose, corn is definitely a thing I noticed as an American living/traveling in those countries.

Of the three, Korea is by far the most corn obsessed. Mayo is more Japan's wheelhouse of crazy, though Korea is no slouch in mayoing everything either.

Corn chowder, corn chips, cornbread, the US has entire cuisines based around corn. I'll grant you that specifically loose sweet corn might be used more, but to say Japan is obsessed with corn just ain't right.

In NZ, which has the same sweet potatoes as Japan, it's generally treated the same as pumpkin in savoury dishes. So like baked/roasted/boiled and eaten with meat. It was weird to me seeing it honey or sugar coated here in Japan

I have never heard the same recipe twice for liquid cocaine. I think liquid cocaine is just the liquor version of hitting every tap on the soda fountain.

Rumpleminz belongs in coffee with some chocolate and nothing else. Maybe a little cream if you're like that.
