Wasn’t Dallara planning to put halos on F2 and F3 cars at the next chassis refresh anyway?

E: a spinal fracture is clearly no good but it seems good that it’s the “she’s complaining of back pain” kind of diagnosis and not the “she can’t feel her legs” kind of diagnosis

F2 already has them, the 2019 F3 car is going to have them as well.

I mean, the blue kerbing is designed to punish/prevent drivers cutting the corners to gain an advantage, and I'm sure it had been brought up in the meetings where they discussed requiring those type of kerbs whether they could launch a car. Now they have an answer I guess.

Wonder if they will stop using the high kerbs on the inside of corners, or move them further away from the inside of the corner?

I mean it's basically impossible to cut that corner to the FIA's definition of all 4 wheels outside the white (or yellow here) line, and you're going to murder your exit on the run up the hill and gain zero advantage by doing so anyway. I like using those harder kerbs as a cutting deterrent (mostly because it pisses off F1 drivers who consider corner cutting to be their divine right), but there's no reason for it to be on that corner.

Apparently the drivers were prasing the new kerbs this year as it was making the track faster, and I guess they were trying to make a better funnel into Lisboa and prevent the usual traffic jams

On the other hand, watch the replays Sophia came in so fast if she didnt VAULT over the other car this ironically may have ended up being worse.

Also, to everyone who was complaining about the garbage TV coverage, this was apparent to me when on Saturday they were talking about Mick Schumacher and the commentator said "I'm sure Michael's at home watching " :yikes:

Chinese photographer Chan Weng Wang, who has a lacerated liver, is expected to remain in hospital for another 10 days.

Race marshal Chan Cha suffered cuts and a broken jaw but should be released in three to four days.

Motorsport were making the argument that speaking purely of Sophia, getting launched by those kerbs was possibly better than hitting the wall at ground level still going that fast.

Certainly not better for everyone behind there of course.

That’s a pretty glib way to look at it. The only thing that kept her from flying into a casino was a quad- (or quintuple?) stack of Armco barrier. I wouldn’t be too happy with that result.

Flying cars are almost always the last thing you want.

Not just tax hi-jinx, but allegedly he and another top (non-Japanese) executive under-reporting their total compensation to the tune of $44 million over the course of five years. Nissan is trying to toss him out ASAP, while Renault has been much more circumspect.

I think it’s about to get messier before it gets clear. And that may mean a split.

But that Armco IS there, this might be the one exception in that "almost always".

I mean, maybe? Nissan still invests heavily in GT500 in Super GT, they still celebrate the heritage annually in Japan, and they are entering Formula E too. Not to say they are going to suddenly expand that, but I can see them doing things if they make sense.

And while Renault has been in F1 for a long while, they’ve tried to do it on the cheap. There was an article in Motorsport Magazine just last week about how cheap Renault F1 has been.

Renault still earnestly believe they can win a WDC on 2/3rds the budget of Ferrari and Mercedes (still like 250mil). I applaud their insistence, but if they don't figure out that's not the case soon they're gonna be humiliating themselves.

Nissan still views sportiness as an inherent part of their image, so I don't see them dropping GT500 or F-E.

The RNA is absolutely not going anywhere.

Nissan has groused about the alliance (Renault own 15% of them but have voting rights, Nissan own 43% of the French firm but don't, and Nissan produce far more revenue than Renault does), Ghosn wanted to initiate an even closer alliance and possibly even a merger, Ghosn all of a sudden gets arrested in Japan with Nissan cooperating and using both a whistleblower and a plea-bargain deal to avoid most of the heat and penalties.

I wouldn't be so sure about the state of the RNA.
