I'd get the car, the Star VR only has a 2m cable. The Vive has 5m + 1m in the link box, therefore, is 3 times better.

What the hell were they thinking of making the cable 2m long? I was going to get a StarVR but the 2m cable plus no wireless is a complete turn off and I already knew about the $3,200 price.

The other thing that is holding me back is poor VorpX performance. VorpX doesn't run well on the Pimax (low FPS, the render field is too large)and I imagine it would be even worse on the StarVR.

You're using a monoculus grift. That's no more janky than using VorpX. It works fine with the Vive too as long as you take the time to dial in the settings. If you just want to use the 3D virtual screen on VorpX then there's basically no configuration work needed.

The Monoculus shows up to Windows as a Vive, so it has any and all problems a Vive could have? Good flex tho.

Say what now?
Last time I looked at H3VR it was mostly just a shooting range. I don't really know much about guns, is there enough of a game there to be interesting?

It was already mentioned but "The Mage's Tale" is pretty much exactly what you're looking for. Exploring (beautiful) dungeons, watching out for traps, trying to find secrets, solving puzzles, fighting monsters, leveling up, finding and creating new spells and spell mods, and a decent length for a vr game (a bit over 10 hours).

It's still mostly a gun porn game, but the dude is always adding weird challenge modes that are pretty fun on their own merits.

Return of the Rotwieners is a massive open-world rogue-like mode, with random weapon spawns and new content being added weekly. It's well worth playing.

Bare on mind its still a gunsim, so if you don't learn how guns work, plus how the game emulates gun controls, you're in for a rough time. But with that said, I've walked a mate through using bolt actions in RotRW and he picked it up pretty easy.

For traps, I did the sides individually- stand right behind a jaw, grab and pull back and down. Only reliable way I had, otherwise it would snap back halfway. Doing all 4 sets should give you 4 gun cases- scoped hunting rifle, milsurp bolt action, 'obrez' bolt action pistol and military sniper. The Arctic Warfare was the 4th case but now its the gunshops reward.

Also, you want to get the mine forewiener and pawn shop rewards if you like shotguns...

You can get MUCH better magaine-fed shotguns from the pawn shop if you go grab the gold figures in the Pacification Squad forts. They're not as daunting as you think, because you can just run like hell and evade the targeting on the turrets.

If at all possible it's best to play Standing or Roomscale, with the arm-swinger control method. Stand or crouch behind cover, aim and shoot, then jog frantically like an idiot for fresh cover while hoping you don't get shot by gun-toting hotdogs.

Or find a nice elevated perch to physically lay down with a sniper rifle and pick off some rotten frankfurts out for meEEAAAaaaAaatttt :zombie:.

Yeah I pretty much always just try to get an explosive arrow of some sort, rapid fire them as fast as possible while still hitting, and then using whatever other special arrows I have to finish them off. You can't realistically fight 10 archers and 5 zombies who infinitely respawn at the same time.

Pretty sure it is. Only modes removed were the original Rotwiener mode, and the Meatmas scene (returning this Xmad)

Theres also 2 Take and Hold modes and Meatgrinder as well.

Wurstworld is indeed still in the game. I believe the Meatmas scene is still in too, but the Gronch is on holiday getting retuned for this Xmas. Only T&H:Containment is in the game now, or at least I didn't see the old scene in the main menu anywhere.

You really should, it's one of my staples for introducing people to VR. While it is just a "gun sim" it's really well polished, constantly getting updates, and the actual "game" modes have a ton of replayability.

This seems like the specific situation where a Vive and its wireless kit are better enough than a Rift to be worth the extra money.

I'd still say this depends on the specific games you want to play. As far as I can think of, most of the sweatier games involve moving your arms a lot, taking a step or two to the left and right, and doing some crouching. I don't think the more exercise specific ones involve a lot of actual movement around your space (I mean, you're never going to run or anything like that, the guardian wouldn't appear in time and you'd crash into a wall).

It's actually the slower, more exploration-y games that use roomscale more.

If you have a large area, the Vive will handle it better and without a million cords to run. No shade on the rift, but it's just what the lighthouses we're built to do.

The big 3 jazzercise games are:

Beat Saber, which needs mods but lets you jedi blocks.
Sound Boxing, which is similar, but punchy instead of slashy.
Audioshield, which is worse than the other two but lets you import any eclectic music you have and algorithms it's own tracks for you.

For all of these, be sure to move your feet and dance. It's healthier and more fun to groove like an absolute idiot on an easy track than to clear a hard track while stationary

For other cardio:
Sprint Vector is still fun, it's arm powered Mario Kart parkour. It won't take advantage of your roomspace though.
Gorn is an arena gladiator game that will keep you moving and make fantastic use of your area.
A good bow game like In Death will give your arms more of a workout than you think.
Lastly, just staying on your feet and moving is better than being stationary, so losing yourself in Skyrim for hours at a time will add up.

Yeah I don't mean it as an absolute, just that unfortunately VR is in the state of there being a few specific games and not just tons of stuff in any genre. You'd be better served by gearing your setup towards a particular game in mind rather than a general layout just because of a dearth of content. I have enough space that I could probably do something like 10' x 9' or so roomscale, but since I'm mostly playing Echo Arena on a 4' x 4' mat in the center, my Rift is overall better for me. Otherwise I'd probably use my Vive since it's less finicky for that amount of space.

I have a Rift and I wouldn't want to have to run a long enough USB cable to get that third sensor far enough back that you don't have an unknowable, arbitrary end to your sensor coverage somewhere midway towards the rear of your playspace.

e: of course if the knuckles come out by the time he gets his bonus money, that's also a pretty good reason to get a Vive over a Rift.
