Yeah, we love watching Atypical here. It's really well crafted and emotionally rich, despite some of the contrivances the writers pull to push the characters into exploring each episode's theme.

Only about half way through the second season so far, though.

I know it's a cliche crutch, but Plinkett's TLJ review pretty much sums up my feelings on the movie. Basically, it was fun to watch overall, but sprinkled with baffling tonal and plot choices, and a lot of it starts to fall apart when you think about it afterwards.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f83D18xL7VE

My main gripes:

I actually loved the Canto Bight sequence but it doesn't really make sense in the context of the larger story. Would have been great if expanded into a standalone movie.

You can't make me like Super-Leia no matter how hard you try.

Built up great back-and-forth tension with Kylo and Rey only to chuck it all in the last act.

Holdo's decisions fly in the face of what we're supposed to think the "good" guys would do. The whole suicide ship-ramming sequence was loving awesome, though.

At the same time, Poe is such an unpredictable prat that you totally understand why Holdo would withhold information from him.

Luke being a grump was actually entertaining, and sells the "Let it all burn" outlook quite well, only to have Ghost Yoda undermine the entire message, again at the last minute.

E: Anyway, great TV chat, thanks for listening.

I was thinking of trying to narrow down my favourite tv series of each decade but the only one I'm absolutely certain of is Hustle in 00s.

A lot of the plot beats felt inconsequential to me. Things that I guess should have big ramifications for the rest of the series going forward just kind of happened and didn't have any emotional impact on me. Like Luke Skywalker, a major character of the series for 40 years, just kinda dies like a bitch and I felt nothing seeing that except "...well that was lame"

I really hate to be that guy but Luke didn't "die like a bitch." He died as a symbol and a legend through his actions and he'll live on as an ideal for people to look up to. Like, were you expecting an old man to actually go out and fight an army?

Nope, but I was expecting him not to die from a loving Force projection of himself. I get that the symbol/legend/ideal poo poo was the intention, but to me it felt cheap and unsatisfying and didn't have any of the emotional impact that it was going for.

No doubt Luke will show up alive in Episode IX and reveal that it was actually Luuke who was in Episode VIII.

Classic Abrams twist.

My issues with The Last Jedi are less it feeling tonally out of place with the rest of the series (which it does if you're thinking only in OT terms, but lol whether you like the prequels (I can't stand them) or not they exist and their tone is a valid route to go in movies going forward imo) and more it having tone issues within the movie itself. There's a lot of tonal whiplash in a movie that feels overly long and I think the casino poo poo was awful and shouldn't have been in it at all.

But it has sooooo much good I can't help enjoying the experience of watching the movie overall.

I've had this exact opion since i walked out of the movie. Except i haven't rewatched it and i don't really plan to any time soon. But i've watched Rogue one at least ten times and i've watched Solo 5 times since that came out.
I just didn't like most of TLJ, it's aan ok movie i guess, but it's not a good star wars movie.

Hi. I'm Ron Swanson. If you're anything like me--well, you probably aren't. But if you do have significant reserves of gold and other precious metals, you need a safe place to keep them.

*gestures at safe on bench next to him*

Now, I don't make safes, because I specialize in wood crafts. But my friend James is a master metalsmith, and he's the only person I trust to make safes to keep my things in. He asked to use my name to advertise them, and his safes are the only product I trust enough to lend my likeness to. Swanson Safe Company. Not made by me, but if I did, I'd like to think they would be as good as James' are.

I had forgotten that season 3 of gently caress Scientology had started until I saw 2 new episodes of it on my DVR. Watching this episode about Jehovah's Witnesses now. Jesus, this sounds just as bad as Scientology :ohdear: I never knew they were that bad too.

IMO the show is still good because of Kevin and V but suffered a big hit when Noel Fisher (Mickey) left. That dude is crazy talented.

Yeah, I've loved every season, just to varying degrees. Not sure I'll watch next year tho, going to feel weird without Fiona-- even if they end up doing a good job sending her off this season. I'm looking forward to catching up for the finale at any rate. I'll decide whether I tune in next year (assuming it gets renewed, that is) when this is said and done lol
