What is the general reputation of Stjepan Sejic? Gail Simone has been posting some of his art on Twitter, and it seems great to me -- all his people are very attractive, but he draws everyone with unique body types, incredible facial expressions like Kevin Maguire on his best day, and a real eye for detail with clothing and costumes. I see he's doing some DC work now, but he got popular doing a BDSM romance comic called Sunstone. Is it just plain porn, or is there any literary/artistic merit to it, beyond just sexy art? From what I've seen of his artwork, there's a lot more substance than one-trick cheesecake artists like J. Scott Campbell.

He had a very beautiful looking but brief stint on Rat Queens. Other than that I don't think he's really been on much I'd go out of my way to read.

By all reports he is good people. He just likes to draw sexy sex stuff.

Sunstone was a good read. Yeah it’s about sexy bdsm lesbians but it mainly focuses more on the build up of the relationship and how things like trust and respect play in the foundation of something more. The bdsm is how things start and he takes time to really focus on how a dom/sub relationship works and how much effort it takes to actually not gently caress things up. Aside from the first volume I don’t think there’s a lot of sex, the story really kinda grows into a relationship/love story. Dude draws real good and his Rat Queens run is great.

Sunstone is a good read and as happy says it's "about" bdsm in that the opening arc is how the two mains met and their stories of how they discovered they're into it, but after that it becomes a story about multiple couples and their relationships. iirc he and his wife participate in it irl and the characters are kinda sorta amalgams of real life experiences of people he's met in the community And his art is good too

Sejic (well both of them actually) did a lot of work for Top Cow. He and Linda (his wife) both also have some independent books Sunstone is one of his. His art is really good. In particular, I think he really nails comic faces without it being entirely absurd. Heck, he's good at just expressive faces in general. It's tragic that he didn't have a longer Rat Queens run, but then again, the book started heading down hill about the time he left anyway.

Ohhhhh boy did it. Tess Fowler managed to make it to six issues, and what exactly happened is a rather messy case of "he said, she said." Fowler claims she was pushed out to bring back Upchurch as the artist (which, of course, didn't happen and would be an insane move for Wiebe and Image to make given how much publicity the case has gotten). Wiebe just claimed creative differences.

I felt bad about the whole Fowler fallout because it was really hard to tell if she got hosed over or if Wiebe just didn't click with her and wanted to find someone who he worked better with. I never liked Fowler's art on the book though so I think it was that the comic really leaned on well-drawn faces selling jokes, emotion, etc. and that is certainly not Fowler's strong suit. At least it was a really good run through the Sejic parts.
