Dominic "Who Knew The UK Was An Island?" Raab kicking off the weekend:

quote:

Raab: staying in EU better than May's deal

Former Brexit secretary Dominic Raab has claimed that Theresa May’s deal on Brexit would be worse than staying in the EU.

Asked on Today to chose between no Brexit at all and May’s deal, Raab eventually said:

If you just presented me terms: this deal or EU membership, because we would effectively be bound by the same rules without the control or voice over them, yes I think this would be even worse than that.

Yeah no poo poo Raab. Also, gently caress you.

Lol if the Tories manage to cop the blame for leaving and remaining in the EU at the same time.

Yes and it is a really big problem, although British definitions of homelessness are not the same as US definitions; homelessness in the UK includes being put in certain emergency accommodation by the state, crashing with friends etc. and not just rough sleeping.

Can't believe the idiot conservative is wrong. To quote a BBC article,

"So, as Mr Trump visits the UK, and with six months' data for the first half of 2018, how do London and New York now compare?

The figures are pretty clear. In the first six months of this year, there were 80 homicides in London, including one in the City of London which has its own police force.

Over the same period in New York there were 141 homicides - 61 more than London."
This nonsense about there being more murders in London than in New York is based on one month, February this year. In 2017 there were nearly 3 times as many murders in London as in New York City.

Shocking no one, I'm sure.

But yeah, homeless is hosed up and the problem is liberalism, economic liberalism. It's very bad for the poor, clearly. And the homeless problem is visibly worse than it has been at any point in my life, more people sleeping rough even in small towns than at any point in the past 25 years at least. And that's without touching on people needing to rely on shelters or couch surfing or sleeping in a tent outside the Amazon warehouse they work in. hosed up.

quote:

At this point, Downing Street could decide to unilaterally give up all these tests and procedures for goods coming into the UK. After all, it is now unbound from EU law. It can do what it likes.

There is some evidence that this is what ministers are planning. In February, Defra minister George Eustice told a Lords committee his department would implement a 'mutual recognition' regime, which ultimately amounts to assuming food from the EU was safe to eat and hoping they did the same. Transport secretary Chris Grayling told the BBC categorically in March that "we will not impose checks" at the port of Dover.

But this approach would have profound consequences. Overnight, there would be no protections whatsoever for UK consumers on the food they eat.

This would be a betrayal of ministers' assurances of high food standards after Brexit, but put aside the morality and think about the practicality. Opening the border in this way would provide an open invitation for fraudsters. They could send anything to the UK they like - any food product, any drink, with any ingredient - knowing there would be no checks. The spot check system operating under EU law would vanish. There would be no documentation, no safeguards, no court oversight, and no supervision.
