Not sure if this has been mentioned but I have iOS 12.1 on an iPhone XR and after the app updates I am seeing a lot of inconsistency in spoiler tags. I’d say they work like 60% of the time when I select them now? Otherwise they just stay blacked out and do not reveal text on selection. EDIT: actually now that I am actively checking, spoiler tags don’t work at all for me. Scornful Sexbot fucked around with this message at 21:28 on Nov 19, 2018 |

I think it’s an issue with “clicking” in general, not just spoiler tags. I’ve noticed issues hitting links, buttons, and ignored users’ posts too.

Ok this may or may not be the issue, but I have found that once I click on a profile to see posts, rap-sheet, etc... I can no longer un-spoiler things. Even swiping the app away (to “unload” it) doesn’t seem to work. Two things I’ve seen for sure fix it. An app update everything was back to normal and a hard reboot did so as well.

Yeah, I’ve seen it with spoiler tags and trying to play GIFs since the latest update went through yesterday. I’ll click them but get no response. If I leave the thread and reload it, that seems to fix the problem. I’ve also seen things previous posts not loading or scroll to the end jumping down one or two posts, rather than going all the way to the end of whatever thread I’m reading. FWIW I don’t think I experienced any of the problems with tags that others had mentioned having in the past prior to the update. iPhone 8, iOS 12.1

Is there a way to clear the Awful browser cache? I keep bumping up against the paywall on sites like WaPo and Nytimes. I’ve used the apps clear cache function without success. I’m not sure If this is new, but I don’t remember encountering it before the last couple weeks.

Is there a way to outright truncate the username in the app? For example, when reading this post by a user with long username, the name breaks the table/page width to the point where it leaves a large amount of blank space on the right side. It also completely disables the swiping from left-edge to the right 'go back up a level'/out of the thread shortcut since the app will think you are trying to scroll left instead, even when you are already on the left edge. And it breaks the scroll down motion because you will end up scrolling right instead.

Minor nitpick/request: When I am in landscape mode and laying in bed reading, I tend to scroll with my right thumb on the right side of the screen due to the ergonomics of how I'm laying and such because of a very bad back. However, said ergonomics frequently cause my vertical scroll to sort of be like / where there's a decent bit of left->right movement. If it's a little too much, it pulls out the sidebar and I have to stuff it back. It turns out that it happens enough to be annoying for me. Would it be possible (and desired, of course) to only have the sidebar open if you slide from the left portion of the screen in landscape mode? You need to have your finger over there to use it anyways, so is there benefit to use the right half of the screen to slide open the sidebar and then switch over to the left side? This hasn't affected me in portrait mode and I could see it being a bit more of an issue to do the "fix" in portrait as well since there's less horizontal real estate there. But if the slide had to start left of the midpoint in order to pull out the sidebar, that would be very nice for me! I realize this is probably an issue limited to me and it might not be worth fixing or wouldn't be desired, but it's been bugging me a little and I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Not sure if this is a bug or something I don't get but when I try to full screen a quoted image awful has to reload it from scratch which for large file size gifs or on the slow hotel wifi I'm on now leaves a blank screen for a while before it loads. If it's showing up in the quoted message shouldn't it be cached already?

It’s cached by the webview, but the zoom display doesn’t use a webview so it doesn’t have access to that cache.

I don't know how to reproduce this bug, but sometimes, the ... button on posts won't bring up the floating edit/quote/report dialog with a simple tap. You need to hold it for a fraction of a second before letting go to bring it up. Dismissing the app and reloading is enough to make it go away.

However it does slide out when I'm too horizontal with my sliding in landscape mode as I described. If you were able to limit the slide "trigger" to starting on the left half of the screen, that would solve it entirely I think and probably not cause anyone else grief since you need to be on the left to use it anyways. My current hypothesis is that something is loving up the JavaScript that gets injected to do things like load GIFs and report tap events on post authors and the post ⋯ button. I'ma start using a debug build of Awful all the time in hopes that I can reproduce it, then I'll be able to fire up Web Inspector and see what the problem is.
