It might be hard for them to see you as an ally when you repeatedly declare that they must welcome in both people and rhetoric that make them subhuman into their political bloc. Otherwise they just aren’t being pragmatic enough and will never make any real progress.

Complaining about a “purity test” for a positions like “let’s not bomb brown children” or “refugees and immigrants are people deserving of rights and protections” is a bad faith position right from the start.

Being on the wrong side of genocide and/or supporting white nationalist rhetoric and policy should absolutely be hard lines that are unacceptable in even a milquetoast progressive. That’s the kind of beliefs and actions that should get your own loving family to disown you like the CHUDs who can’t go to family Thanksgiving anymore.

The fact that you think it’s stupid and unreasonable to require Democratic politicians to not dehumanize minorities is much more reflective of your narrow perspective than any sort of naivety from the minorities saying “gently caress no gtfo with that poo poo”.

I do think you’re trying to be good and right here, and aren’t being malicious, but being a good ally means conceding to the reasonable demands of your allies. And if your allies are saying that someone is disrespecting them and tossing them aside, maybe you should listen to and defend your allies instead of making excuses for extreme moral failings of Democratic politicians.

I kind of wonder how much influence she'll even be able to have once the Democratic house is sorted out. I mean we don't even know officially who is going to be speaker yet. That's pivotally important because that person gets to set the house agenda. If it's not Pelosi who she appears to have thrown her support behind she might not get a seat at the table. She'd also need to get on a committee which might not happen with her level of seniority or lack thereof in this congress. There's lots to consider that will no doubt frustrate people that want progressive change immediately come 2019.

A politician running on and enthusiastically advocating for leftist policies is something. You’re basically saying that you can’t enthusiastically support anyone who doesn’t already have a voting record to judge them based on, which makes it pretty tough for new blood to break into politics.

Tweeting so well that the right wing media is collectively going apeshit is a start for "something," because it's at least a new narrative, and it's okay to be happy about that instead of just counting down the days until she becomes a disappointment.

Being excited about AOC is in itself a political act. The enthusiasm for her politics sends a message to all other politicians; even if she personally is not able to accomplish much in the machine, the establishment will feel the wind blowing enough to at least start tacking in that direction.

Edit to add: Cynicism about the possibility of change only emboldens the guardians of the status quo.

Coffee I dunno about but for donuts you want a place called "Lerch's Donuts" for the finest (fresh) powdered donuts on gods green earth. (The pinwheels are particularly good as well.) They have mobile stations sprinkled throughout Wooster so it shouldn't be too hard. For pies you want to head on over to Troyers Home Pantry. I recommend the strawberry rhubarb if they have it, also of note the shoofly pie is one of those things that once you had the Amish version you'll never be able to look at another shoofly pie the same way again.

If I eat a sixer for this just know that it was worth it.

How does my pointing out a basic reality imply that people should just deal with it?

It's a statement of fact not an endorsement or expression of support for that fact. And while I was replying to PJ my response was aimed at the entire Dems are bad brigade most of whom are not minorities.

You have no clue about the future that I envision, which is the same as you described, this is not a disagreement on the goal it is a disagreement on how to get there.

Recognition of the very real challenges in pushing that vision in an objective rational manner is an important part of overcoming those challenges.

If I had my preference we'd not just have single payer we'd just go straight to a government funded and operated Healthcare system.

The challenge is how to convince a bunch of irrational, ignorant apes of this while another group of people who have us outgunned and have a level of solidarity of purpose that the left can only envy.

That's why I ask what would you have me do that I'm not already doing?

As I said this isn't a just world. Recognition of that is not a value statement. I never said that it's how it should be.

I totally get it, but I want to hear you say it.

What do you want to do to the people who you view as your enemy? You know to those people who aren't ready to go murder millions of people to achieve the world you want? Those of us who insufficiently ideologically pure for your tastes, who are willing to give people the benefit of the doubt on their intentions.

Who aren't willing to become Fascists to beat Fascists.

Maybe I'm totally missing what the Dems are bad brigade are suggesting? If so please enlighten me. How do you propose that we deal with the reality that close to half of all humans aren't simply perfectly fine with the status quo but are actively working to undo any progress that has been accomplished in the past?

What's your plan for getting this poo poo done?

What beyond vote for the best candidate in each election? What beyond speaking up when we see an injustice?

If you have a better answer I'm wide open to it. But how the heck are we supposed to discuss the virtues of such a plan when it's never actually defined?

It's easy to complain about someone else screwing something up, it's something entirely different when you have to come up with the answers yourself.

I mean I get that it's frustrating and that it is emotionally satisfying to lash out at convenient targets and no I'm not suddenly going to start supporting fascism because someone lashed out at me from a place a pain and frustration and called me a bad thing (like centrist).

My personal ideological framework is more resilient than that.

While I'm frustrated with the conversation I actually respect many of the posters on the other side of this discussion and I am trying to engage in good faith.

I have a lot of respect for KM and PJ in particular and it does bother me that they don't view me as an ally anytime that I happen to disagree on something. It's frustrating because I am legitimately trying to be a good ally because I do strongly believe in the same cause.

Because believe it or not, we do share the same goal (assuming they are what i am harry laid out. That is the goal right? A world where people aren't punished for things that are outside of their control. Where people don't have to choose between taking a lovely miserable job for too little pay or starving in the streets. Where the powerful don't get to harm others for their own gain and where we are not Terra forming the planet into a place that is not hospitable to human life.

Where white privilege, male privilege, straight privilege are just historical oddities that are studied by anthropologists.

That is the desired end point right?

I really hope they get some amazing lawyers to bring the hammer down on Facebook.

I feel like a poo poo load of their ToS/data theft are not actually legal. Like a company could have its employees sign a contract saying they are slaves now and will receive no medical compensation for a workplace injury, but lol at that contract actually holding up in court.

IANAL though, and I imagine the FB poo poo is much more ambiguous with the current laws on the books.

Nah.

Facebook is in "too big to fail" category, now. Congress and other powerful people will bend over backwards to keep it afloat, much like a lot of the banks during the recession. If it gets bad enough Zuckerberg might be forced out, but Facebook itself as an entity will remian.

I would love to see the death of facebook, to just wake up, learn all the servers are unplugged and goodbye.

There would be a lot of chaos though if that happened I think, a lot of people, just every day people have so much tied up in facebook it's embarrassing. From small side businesses that seemingly run entirely through the platform, to "social media specialists" who overcharge to watch feeds and use hootsuite, as a graphic designer nothing bugs me more than knowing that every social media chud I've ever had to deal with just sits on the internet all day under the guise of "for the social media platforms" and just auto directs things though a media manager.

I can only imagine it would quickly be replaced by something down the road.

Why?

Sometimes people forget that when one goes full Nazi they have willingly tossed aside their humanity and need to be treated with caution because they are dangerous ideologues.

The MAGA crowd certainly fits the bill, and need to be reviled publicly to make sure their hateful ideology doesn’t spread any further.

The public transforming the KKK’s image from “honorable” white heritage defenders to moronic racist terrorists might have been the single biggest detriment to the growth and strength of the Klan.

Give the Nazis no quarter, and resist them at all times. If they’ve decided to embrace the fash they lose the protections of public decorum and decency.
