Anime fans are not pedophiles, but there is a worryingly large amount of anime that straight-up panders to pedophiles, large enough to color the conceptions to the average person. Also idol culture in Japan is toxic as hell -- girls get dragged in, used up on stage and media, abused, then get farmed out to porn and even worse when they get too "old." Same thing happens all around the world of course so it's not uniquely Japanese, but it's especially prevalent there with the influence of the Yakuza.
