Alonso with WTR for Daytona https://racer.com/2018/11/26/alonso-set-to-make-rolex-24-return/ Also Jimmie wants to buddy up with Alonso at Daytona too

I wonder if WTR would run 2 cars, seems like they got a ton of dudes wanting to run who would bring primo sponsor interest.

I have nothing but respect for Alonso as a driver but the way he inevitably gets treated like an Achaemenid god-king everywhere he shows up to drive is going to make the Rolex 24 lead-up coverage unbearable Also, Paul Miller Racing is taking their ball and going to Blancpain after IMSA reclassified Madison Snow as a Gold in next year's driver ratings, disqualifying the championship-winning Sellers/Snow lineup for 2019: https://sportscar365.com/sro/blancpain-gt-america/paul-miller-planning-move-to-blancpain-gt-america-in-expanded-effort/

Snow drove at the level of a pro driver this year, winning the Lambo Super Trofeo championship as well as the Weathertech GTD Championship. His main Am competition this year, against whom he fought hard and had better results, also got reclassified as gold, even when she was driving with a *much* stronger Pro for most of the season. No offense to Sellers, but he's no Parente, and even when Kat wasn't driving with Parente, she was driving with Mario Farnbacher, who also got promoted to gold in the FIA rankings. Sellers was the only IMSA regular that was regarded as one of the worst offenders of the sneaky silvers that *wasn't* promoted directly by the FIA

As thought, ESM is dead. Despite Core previously announcing they were gonna use the Oreca next year... nope. Core bought the Nissans, is parking the Oreca, and will run 1 DPi next year instead. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/core-switches-to-nissan-dpi/ Kaiser will run in Juncos #50 at Daytona, with full timer Will Owen. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/kaiser-joining-juncos-for-rolex-24/ Madison Snow got upgraded in the driver rankings, so hes leaving IMSA. https://racer.com/2018/11/30/paul-miller-racing-splits-with-snow/

Hopefully they can run a second car later in the season or in 2020, and this keeps four different DPi brands on the grid too. RIP in peace ESM, though

Whoa poo poo son, that's a big swing from Jon Bennett ultimately wanting to race Le Mans, then again he gave the invite up this year up to fight for the overall championship at PLM. The move to DPi makes them ineligible for the auto invite to LM. Great news, given the circumstances though. Only wish we'd see some more Nissan involvement down-field in GTD to help spread that cost around, like the Altima did in ST in years past. Makes me wonder why more teams don't operate a GTD, IPC or MPC (nee Conti) team to bring in cash flow to help run a full pro effort, much like what WTR does with Prestige Performance in Lambo Super Trofeo to help fund their efforts. Dragonspeed are apparently going to run 1 at Daytona, but that'll be a glorified pre-LeMans test. That's now the only announced LMP2 entry at all.

Maybe IMSA should have made the full season DPi only, with LMP2 as a class for the Daytona/Sebring/Glen/Petit endurance schedule. That might entire more from Europe to come over to play and boost car counts. Alas.

DOHC flat-plane TTV8, I heard 4.2L, though I think that's bigger than the maximum turbo engine displacement, so they're either going with a waiver or are taking it to 4.0 Sounds pretty good, not as iconic as the old one, but it at least has SOME noise, unlike the BMWs, Ferraris, and Astons, which are nearly inaudible.

Powershift posted:This fanboost thing sounds like the worst thing ever, but lol@strudel getting 37% to Massa's 13% to almost everybody else's 1% For what it's worth, it's really hardly ever played into any big results. It's a 25hp boost for like 5 seconds, and that's if the driver chooses to use it. Often they have been running to an energy number in the race that doesn't allow for them to use the amount of energy that deploying fanboost takes. Usually if it's used at all it's used to attempt an overtake for some minor positions, or in defense from another driver, so the attacking driver has to expend more energy in the attack, making it easier to defend, or retake that position later. I was pretty grumpy about fanboost when I started following FE, but it's been really kinda an overhyped nothingburger, at least in the first 4 seasons. e: it also doesn't count for the fastest lap points, so you can't even use it as a boost to edge out there
