I have a complete opposite view of Chef, minus the ending - I thought the whole movie was going so far up Favreaus rear end about how he was the super good chef and ousted, with a super hot wife and then he has the best drat truck ever.

It was disgusting and I finished the movie having wished I never saw this poo poo.

At least the grilled cheese looked good.

I’m not gonna call it perfect and it has issues for sure. But it clicks something in my brain that reminds me of lovely creative endeavors with lovely boring people.

I find it a bit inspiring but I can see how it’s hard to get past some things. He should’ve made his character more human and less rich, with everything going for him. Like start it really high and have him hit real rock bottom. Like lovely apartment, gets a job at a Kitchen Nightmares level restaurant for a bit before he did the truck.

I really like Chef as a movie but trying to make it analogous to Favreau is a lost cause; even if that’s what he was doing.

This looks like poo poo. These Disney hyperrealist films avoid vibrancy and dynamic compositions like the plague.

Like seriously, it's become the house style of the company. Remembering the bizarre funereal look and palette of that Christopher Robin movie from this year.

Seeing a trailer for that movie taught me that there is such a thing as uncanny valley for stuffed animals.

Yeah. It was cool.

edit: What could be neat in the new Lion King is if the animals didn't talk and the storytelling was all narrated. CG could be used to make something that recalls those old live animal adventure movies (Milo and Otis, Homeward Bound) without the animal abuse.

'Legend of the Guardians' came out in 2010 and still looks better than most of these 'live action' remakes Disney keeps making.

I felt this way about Blue is the Warmest Color. The movie is three hours long and everybody is eating constantly. The spaghetti and meatballs in the scenes with Adele’s family looked amazing. I was starving by the end and it was like 3am when I finished!

You mean in terms of CG? Because I love LotG and it's good and looks great, but the new Disney remakes are simply stunning in terms of CG. Especially when you realize how much of it was actually CG (essentially literally everything but Mowgli)

edit: skip til about halfway through but I love seeing real time pre-viz stuff on screen.

the most notable thing about when I watched Chef (which I came into about 30 minutes into the actual movie) is that by the time the credits were rolling me and my roommate had ordered and had delivered some Cubans.

Never read the books, but I imagined something a whole lot less generic looking. Also that's less comedic and younger-skewing than I assumed based on my limited knowledge of the series. It's not like I'm the primary audience but that looks like a serious snooze.

It sort of reminds me of that Tim Burton movie with Eva Green from a few years ago (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) which was definitely a disappointing movie.

Aside from that it wasn't good, but any movie featuring Harryhausen-like pirate skeletons fighting demons at a fun fair cannot be disappointing.
