Hurray! I'm finally on medication that seems like it's working for me (made by blenderizing GMO Chinese hamster ovaries! :black101:) so maybe I'll actually get to hang out past 8pm this time... And hopefully we will have a couch by January.

SA, glad you are well too! How's everybody else doing?

i make more money than i feel like i really deserve for writing dumb javascript fart apps (not like obscene amounts or anything but it still doesn't really feel right, idk) and i'd rather spend the extra on helping my less well off friends transition or make rent or whatever instead of buying more garbage i don't need

it will take a while for you to be infertile (and this effect is reversible up to a point), you could prolly start with no ill consequence if it's in the near future

I turned out to be infertile even without pills. I wouldn't want to recommend taking them before doing the fertility stuff unless your psyche can't take it.

Yeah you need suppression of testosterone, FSH and LH before sterility sets in. Pure estrogen will take a long time to do this on its own, probably at least a month if not more like 12-24 weeks. Now if you're talking antiandtogens like spirolactone you probably don't want to bet on more than a month of fertility unless HCG is involved.

I might have been sterile to begin with, but got a vasectomy just in case. Now there is absolutely nothing going on down there at all, which is delightful.

It would be even more delightful if I weren't walking, talking boner poison, but baby steps.

serious question: can they replace the ones they take out with fake ones? wife wants the benefits of an orchi but likes having balls for whatever reason (she's generally pretty alright with her genitals, it's just the rest she's super dysphoric about)

they have those for guys who get ball cancer but you'd probably have to find a pretty progressive surgeon to convince them to do this for a woman. understanding of gnc bodies is just not there yet.

they are also approximately $3k each, but she'd possibly get to choose her own size so that would be fun!

it really sucks that you have to convince a surgeon to not make a physical appearance change. you'd think you'd just be able to say "the hormones and blockers are the problem, but I don't want to look any different there" and the surgeon would be all "OK! Two plasti-testes it is!"

can't loving win huh?

most of the surgeons who'd be performing orchiectomies for trans people in the first place wouldn't care about putting prosthetic ones back in. of course, there's probably 0 chance of getting any insurance coverage for that procedure, or the associated orchiectomy, which would be the major halting point there

I have no idea how hard it would be and my first thought was that the surgeon would just see extremely easy to get dollar signs, but I trust jbt's opinion re: surgeons much more than my own.

now that jbt made me consider it I could totally see how asking for prosthetics could make a surgeon prone to gatekeeping get all wishy-washy and treat it like a sign that she isn't really committed or some such bullshit.
