i've been listening to this an awful lot in the car. so much so that i started following the story which was pretty hosed up and brutal, so i googled away and yep it tells the true story of the murder of a kid named gary lauwers by another kid named ricky kasso - nicknamed the 'acid king'.

New Earl is really interesting. There's a big long interview with him somewhere where he mentions intentionally rapping off beat to make the lyrics stand out and command your attention more, which is wild. The whole album is completely beatless, the lyrics are the main event and the instrumental just kind of supplements them. New Ski Mask the Slump God is very, very good. Foot Fungus is a kennybeats joint and he's basically remaking Drop It Like It's Hot which is a bold rear end move to make but he's the guy who can pull it off. Ski's on his Missy Elliot Catch Me Outside poo poo which is so refreshing after the clunker that was Beware the Book of Eli. He recently ditched his old management and really seems to be focusing on his strengths. Just fun as hell, technicolor cartoon slapstick raps that don't wear out their welcome. Recommended listen for sure, but you can skip the Lil Baby feature. There was supposed to be a Thugger feature on this thing too, wonder what happened to it.

PeeWee good as always, not sure what to make of Earl, will listen again, Meek Mill good too, a bit long Ski Mask album is the surprise for me, didn't really think much of him before but it's a really well made album Haven't given Lil Baby a proper listen yet

This new Earl is alright. Some really interesting beats (especially stuff like The Mint and Peanut) but the majority of these tracks feel like half fleshed-out ideas. Like, it's possible to have a really strong song be 2 minutes long, but I don't know that I'd call any of these strong songs. And it's possible to have a strong album be under half an hour long, but this is no Daytona or Kids See Ghosts.
