I mean without engineers you never get from 'I got this to work in a lab' to 'now this is a thing that can benefit humanity' and without the people in said labs the engineers just sit around making trebuchets and stills so we can get drunk off our asses then launch things or possibly die horribly when something goes terribly wrong.
