Instead of spending an entire day on a safety stand-down on average once every month because somebody hosed up, why don't we just have a half day of safety once every two weeks? This will improve Soldiers' ability to retain the reams of information because it will be presented more frequently and we won't have to use as much time for each instance! Better yet, let's just halve it again and make it two hours every week! To further improve retention, we can do it as the last item before COB on Friday! Safety abounds prior to the weekend!

Mandatory training should be a 6 hour block twice a year for everything including resiliance, and that's it. The guard wastes incredible amounts of time with loving sharp and EO briefs.

Seeing as how Active duty spends weeks doing pre change of command and change of command inventories, makes me wonder how the guard does it. Or does anything for that matter.

Like regular army, but shittier. You could probably disappear some major poo poo by just relabeling everything. No one knows what the gently caress descriptions or NSNs are actually indicating except for the most major subcomponents. The line item descriptions are always incomplete. Supply is 1 guy. We have 1 weekend to do it Thankfully, commanders seem to have a gentleman's agreement that something's probably missing, but that the big pieces are there and that it's gonna suck for the guy eventually caught holding the bag.

For reserve unit inactivations they pay a specialist, a pfc a e5 and a e8 to sit around and count boxes for weeks on end, filling out cards in triplicate, repackage said items and drive them to exotic Ft McCoy WI or Ft Lost in the Woods MO. Eat my rear end w a rusty spork 88th ARCOM and gently caress you 801st CSH and your med lab support units

I when I started my med board, my guard unit didnt want to risk me getting hurt further, so they assigned me to a desk to answer phones. The desk had no phone. It had a laptop that no one was allowed to use. I wasn't allowed to have books or my phone out. I did this for a handful of drills, before I told my section leader I wouldn't do it any longer. He pushed me up the chain, and my CO made me go get a Medic to say that I couldn't do it for medical reasons. Which of course, they wouldn't do. I knew my CO when he was a Cadet, so I pulled him aside privately. "All you are doing is wasting money. You are wasting unit funds to pay me to do nothing, and if anything, you are making my mental health issues worse. Don't be a dickbag." He signed off then. He wasn't a bad dude, just shouldn't have been in the Army. He did jump in front a car during his PT test because he knew he failed, and that would invalidate the test. The car was only going like 5-10, and barely touched him. I can respect a dude who remembers his shaming roots.

Funnily enough another cadet and I actually got tapped by a car during a ROTC PT test. They literally only let their foot of the break from a stop, no acceleration. I guess I should have just sat on the curb instead of being a stupid cadet and kept running. I didn’t know that was an option.

I would have done it. I also was told to sit and do nothing and strove strive to look busy. Fun fact, CSGO looks like staying busy.

That unit was kinda fun for a bit. I knew the CO when he was a Cadet, the XO when he was an E4 before OCS, and no one listened to the 1SG because he was a god drat sex offender. I know it was the Guard, but the amount of blatant public insubordination ruled. E- convicted sex offender, not the typical 'raping E3's' sex offender.

How the hell was he still in as a convicted sex offender, let alone a 1SG? Was this some lovely Reserve/Guard thing where you wound up with a temporary E-6/E-7 1SG or something?

You got high enough up friends you're drat near invincible. We had some dude come over from ranger batt and got a felony domestic violence conviction and couldn't touch a gun anymore, but he knew someone and there he was at battalion, an E8 who could never handle a weapon again.

not caring here posted:You got high enough up friends you're drat near invincible. That's utterly crazy. We had an NCO whose wife filed a bogus domestic abuse charge against him and that was enough for him to never be able to touch a weapon. Because of that he had to be chaptered out.

The Guard let the civilians handle it, and tried to pretend it didn't happen. I never understood why- lowet enlisted were openly insubordinate. The only people who listened were E6(a portion) and higher. This created the interesting moment of a PSG telling an E4 to do something because, "Top put it out". "I'm not going to do it just because some kid fucker told me to." "Please? Do it because I'm asking." I actually felt bad for my section leader. In all their infinite wisdom, they put nearly every bitter and broke Infantry guy into the same HQ section, which is a recipe for insuborsinate stupidity. They guys who weren't broken grunts were always shocked when we would refuse to do stupid poo poo.

we had a PV2 who got sent to Iraq with a felony conviction and he was my driver for a week as a fresh in country E-4. He was such a weird loving dude. I was on bitch detail pulling ECP guard with a bunch of Ugandans and he'd pick me up and would tell me all about all the times he had walked in on his wife banging black dudes and getting into fights with them. He'd end up getting angry and driving erratic so by day 2 I would drive myself and put him in the back seats. Then 12 hours later he'd pick me up and I'd drive myself back. That was a weird, weird week for me..
