i interpret john morrison's character as "a wrestler who was a minor character in a 90s kids movie became a wrestler in real life" which is subtle, but honestly i think there's something to it. morrison is playing a wrestler in such a way that he circled around into being the kind of guy who is that nobody c-list actor who is cast when the director needs a really athletic guy for a small or non-speaking role. his other mode is "guy who makes middle aged women insanely horny and leans into it" which i also like. again i'm pretty sure johnny insert-name-here is just himself out there its just i find that person to be really weird and interesting lol

The time on Lucha Underground where Johnny bursts into the Worldwide Underground lockerroom to get them fired up, then notices their camera is on him and immediately becomes 10x worse an actor still makes me laugh to this day. He leaned in hard to,"Johnny Mundo is a great wrestler, but John Morrison is an AWFUL actor" and it was great.

So is anybody here old enough to remember the pre-kayfabe being destroyed days? Or do you know anyone who was an avid fan from those days? It's like, even when I was a kid, I thought "that can't be real" about some big stunts. But now as an adult, even the simplest things - like "why are they running when they get whipped into the ropes?" - sticks out to me more. But people thought this poo poo was totally legit right down to trying to murder heels. Or so I've been told.

It's impossible to say when kayfabe effectively died, but it was a long long time before Jim Cornette claims it did. It's really more of a personal thing. Like, pro wrestling was banned in Paris in IIRC the 1860s for match fixing. By the end of the 19th century there had already been several prominent missteps that resulted in crowds booing matches for obvious fakery and newspapers calling them out. This happened again before 1920 and yet again when promoters worked to revive the sport in the late 40s after the war.

I know it was 50/50 with the kids during WrestleMania 3 as far as believing it was real. The only adults I knew back then who thought it was real were my aunt and uncle, but they were a couple of hayseeds.

Everyone has known it was fake for 100 years. In the 1910s you had the Manhattan Opera House tournament with masked men and dumb angles and storylines and everyone knew it was a work. As has been mentioned crowds had rejected various things for 50 years before that. But even looking forward in the 80s a poll was conducted in the Mid Atlantic region which asked if wrestling was real and only 3% of respondents said it was. So while people were getting all that wild heat and bleeding 5 nights a week in Crocket Promotions everyone knew it was fake.
