It's been great seeing Tumblr users responding with "wow, bankrupting your company? legendary!" I know Twitter enjoys immolating themselves too, but 80% of Tumblr is nudity/pornography related, and a huge portion of the demographics are around 30 years old. So yeah, this is too little too late and ignoring the major problem.

They can't work over the guy who owes them 4 million dollars and get even close to that amount, so they have a vested interest in seeing him get into a position to get them that money.

Has there been any word on that middle class 10% tax cut that Trump talked about a couple of weeks before the mid-terms? It's been over a month now.

quote:

"We're putting in a resolution sometime in the next week or week-and-a-half, two weeks," Trump said. "We're giving a middle-income tax reduction of about 10 percent. We’re doing it now for middle-income people."

I.e. a lot of Democrats are obstacles to precisely what you claim to want to do.

In situations where centrist and/or blue-dog ratfucker democrats are actively impeding us from taking seats away from the GOP, though e.g. lovely messaging and support for loser candidates, they should be dealt with--especially if they are from safe democrat districts/states. Schumer is a good example--there is effectively a 0% chance of a more progressive senator losing to a republican in the NY senate race, and Schumer is a shitler, so any effort expended to get rid of him is effort well spent.

On the other hand, Manchin, while being a complete idiot rear end in a top hat, is always in imminent peril of losing to a GOP candidate. Unless someone has a clear strategy to secure his seat in WV from the left, it isn't worth focusing on him at the expense of other battles.

You can make the argument that sacrificing e.g. a Manchin is worthwhile if it allows you to pick up seats elsewhere, but that's not a gamble to make until you have a clear path to a senate majority (i.e. not now).

FWIH, it's that Tumblr doesn't want to pay for human moderators, which would be the best way to deal with problematic content on the site, instead resorting to putting all adult content into a ghetto, hiding it from view, then using an algorithm to filter content, now just banning all adult content.

This would be less worrisome were it not for the fact that Manchin is almost certainly going to be the top member of the Democratic party on the energy committee, and thus uniquely well-positioned to sabotage any clean energy legislation. I don't disagree with the premise that Manchin is better than whatever else manages to slither out of West Virginia, but when it comes to climate he's probably worse than a lot of Republicans elsewhere in the country.

Today was not a surprise for nobody using the site, since that Tumblr algorithm had "accidentally" deleted whole blogs off the site for bullshit flags. There was a lot of adult content follows I saw that were already preparing to make a move or instructing followers where else to find them on the Internet. I've seen a lot of talk from them about not just abandoning their blogs, but deleting their accounts, since a declining userbase hurts investment potential.

With this and Facebook's shenanigans, feeling like we're reaching some sort of social media endtimes.

I think the bar to entry of 10$ and actually enforced forum rules cuts down the number of issues to a size that human moderation handles. The issue of the sheer volume of content that gets generated by social media sites, and the fact that the difference in retention between mediocre automation and human mods (or a combination thereof) is probably a lot less than the cost of those humans. It is an interesting problem, and I'm not really sure what direction good solutions are in.

Thanks for the answer, just was wondering what you were after. Apparently some bigger players didn't like how tumblr screened NSFW content also. No one wants to pay enough for human moderators, and no one wants to human moderate cause it's not fun.

I mean, a lot of websites are starting to go back to the subscription model and get away from the ad based model. It helps a lot in news and sports becuase people can focus on writing good and interesting poo poo without having to be a purely click-bait hot-take bonanza
