You should concrete your entire map save for a patch of grass in the front of your defensive area. This would make hunting super efficient, as all the animals have to come to you to live. It would also make raids slightly easier? If all the ani.als are in your kill zone, they might get hit and manhunter on the enemy which can only be cool and good.

Can you concrete the border though? Or does flooring not count for the no-build zone?

I think you can't vanilla, but haven't tested it. I have a mod that removes the border restrictions and I intend to concrete floor it for maximum industrial astro turfing.

Leaving an open door to a food storage in your base on a desert map does the same thing, it'll draw most of the wildlife in

Leaving some hay on a shelf outside is easy mode for hunting in the winter or on bare maps.

The "ancient danger" unrevealed room is blocking the western expansion of my base and I've started building around it. I want to crack that sucker open. Am I making a mistake? I've got 12 colonists with 1x LMG, 2x bolt action rifles, and the rest machine pistols.

Any melee specialists? You can save scum it to see what you’re up against and then prepare accordingly.

You might be okay. If out pops two centipedes with scattered lancers and scythers, punching through centipedes with machine pistols sounds rough. If bugs pop out - again, depending on numbers - you’ll probably be fine. Is it a really big room or a small one? Remember you can start building a defense where you’ll open it so you can build in an advantage. Remember to make a corner they need to exit out of so lancers and centipedes don’t take advantage of a narrow opening.

You could always cleanse whatever is inside with holy fire. If you have chemfuel just toss some in a sealed room next the danger and pop it open before dropping a molotov on the pile and scampering out the door(s). Also works with wood walls but will take a bit longer and requires more space. Just be prepared for mechanoids with a solid defense backup.

So, what do shelves actually do? I've been ignoring them cause they seem micromanagey by the description. Also I got two orbital targeting beacons from a quest. How would I go about reigning holy fire down on my enemies with them? Wrr fucked around with this message at 16:12 on Dec 4, 2018 |

Remove beauty penalties for stuff on the ground. Some of the modded ones make your food last longer. I keep them in my kitchen for storage close to the stove and for booze/drugs in dining/rec room.

Yeah and then lose the luciferium, artifacts, and crypto sleep caskets (with whatever goodies/people they contain in the process). I don't recommend this.

I have so many burns from people deciding a forest fire is a nice place to eat lunch.

Just restrict them to the home zone when it's stupid out. Ideally restrict the zone to just space within your walls (be sure to turn off auto expand.)

i feel like building a long tunnel full of spike traps and then popping the wall would be a decent way to clear out an ancient danger. has anyone tried that and knows the efficacy?

You'd need a way to get the opener out quickly without letting the danger through. Maybe if you held a door open and set it to stop holding so they'd shut it once they were through?

I've noticed if you open the wall via gunfire at a distance that the ancient danger is activated, but they most often just wander within the building and don't come out. Sometimes they'll even let you shoot them at range pissing off the one you're shooting, but nobody else.

Help a newbie out. If I want the maximum time noodling around working out the base-building and the minimum time dealing with raids, what storyteller do I want? Randy on easiest mode? This is assuming I ever play the game instead of just browsing mods.

In a17 or something when I was first getting into the game, I sent a raiding team to an enemy outpost, and when we arrived, we could hear a shitload of gunfire but none of it was directed at my people. When my space marines finally got into the partially-underground complex, they discovered, via a burning pirate they shot dead as he was fleeing, that they had cracked open an ancient danger, triggered the bugs and the pods, and lit the whole place on fire cooking everyone inside. It was kinda surreal ala scifi horror where the military dudes stumble across a hosed up station and are trying to figure out what just happened here.

I like raids because sometimes I can get an assault rifle in the first month of the game. Of course, then that pawn shoots all the other pawns in the back and well. That's Rimworld. Friendly Fire mod is cheating.

Infestation popped in my housing area while my combat team was off loving up some tribal outpost for a reward worth 2500 silver (it was 2500 silver). Well, no one died, but did have to burn down the entire place. Going to replace most things with limestone walls and floors now that the fire consumed all the wood. Thankfully I had just built guest housing for the hospitality mod that I could use as a temporary barracks. Boy was the Death Squad surprised when they came back home!
