OK, sure, maybe. But the first 30s of that song are absolutely indistinguishable from every Slipknot song in a way that makes my skip track button itch before I get to that breakdown.

The thing I always hate about "of the year" things is that it too often skews towards whatever is released in the last month or two.

I still can't stop spinning the new PD personally.

I've been citing that as my favorite breakdown since about 2003. :hfive:

I started keeping a running list of "in consideration" in my phone notes app after I recognized this a few years ago. This year, there was a release back in March that is definitely finding a spot on my top ten that I probably would've forgotten about without my list. It was "Catharsis" by Eternal Void. Go back and replay it now, and I bet you go, "oh poo poo, right, that one!"

bro SAAAAMEeeee. when bands do that poo poo i figure they're legit ok with people turning their album off before it's actually finished.

the songs I and II take up 7:21 combined, plus the ~1:20 in Dog No Longer that leads into these two god awful tracks. In the Silence is the longest "song" at 4:15 but it's mostly just droney bullshit noise and a song you know they would neverrr play live.

8:40 (plus the 4:15) out of a 29 minute album means you have almost 13 minutes of unlistenable poo poo. shoulda just released a loving banger EP and called it a day

i really like Jesus Piece but this album is my hands-down biggest disappointment of the year

also idk if you guys give a poo poo about slam/whatever-metal but Abominable Putridity just dropped some new new:

Oh wow that's bad. It's not only bad, it's boring.

Some of my fav metal covers are Arsis - Sunglasses at Night, and Ed Gein's Nirvana covers. I felt Arsis went a good ways to make the song their own, but the Ed Gein covers are pretty much straight forward, but still enjoyable.

And of course this classic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N97G_7alzvQ

In other news, NPR did a top 50 of 2018, not even one metal album.

I Declare War have dropped off so bad as to become unrecognizable, kind of like how Suicide Silence became a nu-metal band recently

And All that Remains becoming Five Finger MAGA Punch

Parkway Drive becoming dad rock

Oh well at least we can still listen to good records we like and ignore the new ones

Still disappointed with the Jesus Piece LP :-/ Strongest agreement with Shoog in years on that one

Yeah, pretty sure it was Octane. It's amazing how every channel on XM, no matter the genre, is the most stereotypical Dad Music possible.

The funniest thing about All That Remains, is that they pretty clearly tried to make a "heavy" album again with the one that just came out a month ago or whatever, and it's so loving boring.

Like it's abundantly clear that they just can't write fun and catchy songs anymore. All the screaming and double bass in the world can't help you if the actual songs suck, and they do. There's absolutely nothing memorable about them at all, ever.

We'll always have Fall of Ideals.

Whatever song they were playing on the local college station here had about 15 seconds of good, old AAR song in it, before the butt-rock chorus kicked in
